RMweb Gold TravisM Posted February 21 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 21 I'm looking for information on the coaching stock identities that was used on Highland Railways 'Jones Good', number 103 on it's 1962 Far North Line rail tour. I think they were mainly Mk1 coaches, but not 100% sure.
Steamport Southport
Any idea of what date? As there seem to have been two tours that involved 103 in 1962. https://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/60s/ht1962.html https://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/60s/620423bl.html https://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/60s/620623_1.html You might be able to find the numbers from photos or the film footage. Jason Hi there, I've only looked on Flickr and not looked at the dates, but I'm pretty sure it would be the 15th June as that would be the one that ran up the far north line to Thurso and Wick, then back to Inverness. From what I can see on Flickr, the coaches were 4 maroon Mk1's, but I could be mistaken on the middle 2.
Steamport Southport
Try here for some photos. https://mikemorant.smugmug.com/Trains-Railways-British-Isles/Railtours/Railtours-1962 To me it seems to be what is listed on Six Bells. 2x BR Mk. 1's (buffet car & BSK), one Stanier-pattern ex-LMS SO & 2x preserved CR coaches (7396+3339) https://mikemorant.smugmug.com/Trains-Railways-British-Isles/Railtours/Railtours-1962/i-X6dGMVP/A With this added information which seems a bit vague. Quote 1) It is suggested that the BSK was swapped for a BSO from 19th June - confirmation required. It is reported the same stock was used throughout the trip 'with certain exceptions'. (2) On 14th June observation saloon Sc280M was added to the formation to trip it north to take up duties on the Kyle line summer service. A bit of digging and we might find out the numbers. I'm sure somebody will know them! Jason
