North eastern railway 20 ton hoppers

Recommended Posts

Slaters although probably now with Cooper Craft following the announcements in small suppliers. Anyway, see some models http://www.rmweb.co....369entry13369

My models (apart from the scratchbuilt P6) on the link provided by Craig (thanks Craig!smile.gif ) are 20T P7s, which is probably the hopper the OP is thinking about, and are indeed available from Slaters/Coopercraft. If you want the earlier, smaller P4/P5 ones, then somebody does those too (I think it's either David Geen or 51L).

David Geen does the P4, 51L the P5.

NER54143 is one of the works plate transfers that Slaters provide with their P7 20T kit, but if it's whitemetal then it will be an ABS one. I believe they're still available. I don't know whether 100113 is a correct number for a 20T wagon: it's not on the number list in Tatlow's book, but that isn't a complete list. I guess the original builder worked from a photo, so it's probably fine. You might want to weather it a bit so that the different running numbers aren't so obvious!wink.gif

  • 2 weeks later...

i have just orderd the slaters kits with the added etched W irons and brake gear hopefully it will be a easy ish build.

the only question i have is when where they removed from mainline traffic?

It depends very much on what you mean by main line.

I would say late 50s as a general observation.

But that depends to some extent on the actual variation that you build.

The kit needs a bit of care but even with the etched items it should prove straight forward. We need need about fifty of them ultimately!

Hopper Dia P7 which are the Slater Model

In use

1922 17000

1939 13500

1947 5600

Therfore a rapid decline into the 1950's as Steel Hoppers took over. The outside W Iron versions I believe are the earliest builds and probably very rare post war
