RMweb Premium 45156 Posted September 3, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) Nice pics Peter - like much of your work, this layout is rapidly becoming one of the classics of the curent era, and am pleased to have followed its progress since it was just an idea. Hope to see it sometime in reality. Just changed my Hornby Mag calendar in the office room, and hey presto - there it was just to remind me how good it is.. trains12
Hi All well here are a few shots of the store and the small platform mounted signal box, the latter has to be positioned on the platform. It is detailed inside but in the shots you cannot see this. I should have put a light inside, in fact before I glue it down I may just fit a 12 volt LED inside running of the track bus. Hi You are most welcome to call in and see us any time you are passing in North Wales as is anybody for that matter. Evenings get a little lonely due to Wendy working a late shift till 10.00pm so most of the time I spend modelling or watching NCIS on TV. trains12
Hi all Well apart from a few minor items and the trees the main layout is complete. The two fiddle yard boards are be be completed and connected to the main layout. Some of the roads need another coat of paint not happy with the bland grey. The biggest job now is the 200 plus trees to complete Will take these away with me and do in the evening while drinking a wee dram of malt and looking over the sea from Skye. Will be back in 10days time with some nice shots of railways around Scotland. Cheers Peter

Are you taking Bertie with you? All the best, Andy. Hi Andy Yes Bertie is going on his summer holiday. Bruce has said that it is raining and the girls have said the same. Hope to go over Connel ferry bridge on the way up to Skye and get some shots of it without the rain? Will make some of the scots pines in the evenings. Dont suppose I will get a sun tan but we are going to the Talisker distillery on Skye one day for a tour and a (Hic) tasting of the Malts. Peter Enjoy, it's a lovely malt - almost as good as Glen Gillie itself.
trains12
Enjoy, it's a lovely malt - almost as good as Glen Gillie itself. I still like Glenfiddich 15 and 25 year malt and Isle of Jura Peter
RMweb Premium 45156 Posted September 6, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 6, 2014 I tend to prefer my malt a bit more peaty - ISTR that we had this discussion when you were proposing this excellent layout centred on a distillery, and we were deciding what sort of malt it produced! Enjoy your holiday, and best wishes for a successful show at Bonnybridge.
trains12
Hi All Well I am back complete with a few bottles of Whisky Hic. Took a few railway shots and also a lot of the falls of lora in full swing , which last year it was high tide so there was none. Also The Oban Times have run a small article on me and the bridge (and Bruce - they have mentioned the show with dates in it) . Had a great time. weather was absolutely great and managed to make a load of scots pine trees in the evenings while overlooking Broadford bay looking out for seals. Will download some shots of the railways and connel ferry bridge which I took in the next few days. Cheers Peter
bruced2
Hi Peter, Glad you had a good holiday a wee bit free advertising is always good thanks for that it might bring people from up there to see the layout so that would be good everything is finalised and the show advert has been seen in railway modeller your layout is mentioned there too. See you soon Bruce

trains12
Hi All here are a few shots taken when on holiday on Skye and at the Connel bridge showing the falls. First of all some shots of the Sloy power station on which I based the model on showing the pipelines and in one shot the rail bridge that goes across the pipes. Next a shot for Andy of Bertie enjoying the view on Skye with Wendy and Jacks And finally some shots of the falls peter

trains12
Hi All Here are a few shots that I took of Kyle station while on my trip to Skye. The building that I am using on Bridge of Muir is a copy of Kyle station that was made in the late 1970's/early 1980's for a layout based on that station. It has been repainted and a new roof fitted for this layout. I must say that I am not too keen upon the paint scheme, that purple/blue? I feel does nothing for the building. trains12
Hi All Here area few shots of the building of the falls under the bridge. We have to build up the waves using fibre and making waves from deluxe materials. Theses shots are after the first build up and the casting resin being poured on to the main loch area.. There is also two shots of the placement of the fir trees being planted , so far 95 firs and twenty five Scots pines planted still a further 100 to do.
bruced2
Looking good Peter cant wait to see it in 2 weeks time. Bruce
trains12
Hi All Here are a few shots I took to day of the black five on a wood train. Had a heart stopping moment when the whole layout did not work on both the points and the main controller. After a couple of hours searching found that while touching up the track with paint I had knocked a sliver of copper clad so that it was making contact on the opposite side and thus shorting out. After removing the offending item all was restored back to health. Small detailing work now in hand together with more trees. Cheers Peter
trains12
Just a short note to say that the engine shed has been finished and is awaiting fitting on to the layout. Still adding small detail work but am running out of suitable people for the layout ? The second layers of the falls using the fibres are under way and should be complete by tomorrow.Mainly the curtains to sort out around the layout and the new sign On course for everything to be completed by Sunday. Peter Ps At present it is so dark in the house that I can not take any decent photographs of the layout. It needs to be down at the unit so the first chance that I will have is at the show next week. Jintyman
Love the canoes Peter, they look so good in the water, the whole layout is stunning!!! Not sure about a Black 5 on OTA's though , unless one of the local 37's misbehaved!!!! Glad you had a good holiday, Scotland is such a lovely place. I'll wait until after your show before I come and batter your head about track building!!! Jinty ;-)

I'll wait until after your show before I come and batter your head about track building!!! Jinty ;-) Hi Jinty Thanks for the comments. Yes I know that the Timber wagons OTA's are the wrong type but apart from a kit of the 50/60's wagons , which are so hard to get hold of , I have one to build, there is no other wagons for this trade. I now have a 3D printing machine and it is hoped that some time in the near future I will try and make some 3D models of the wagons , but at present still trying to conquer the depths of 3D cad. Looking forward to seeing you. Out at Bonneybridge show 3-6th Oct then home for two days then off to the Great Electric Train Show with Glen Gillie and Loch Inch part of the layout. from the 10th - 13th Oct. So any time other than those dates you are most welcome to call. Peter
trains12
Hi all. Well apart from the sign and the fitting of the curtain it is finished that is are they ever fully finished, You can always find a few more people to add or make a small diorama in some way. am already thinking od adding a few more trees, also where the divers are on the side of the loch how about part of a ww2 aeroplane that they have recovered from the loch. Have already seen a few areas that will be touched up before the show. Any way it will be stripped down and packed up ready to go to Bonneybridge show next Friday. Really looking foreward to the show. Peter.
