SXHALL
Links through to a google page showing how to use an excavator to unload stone in the US. Not like our virtual quarries! All I can say is H&S who! Sxhall
pointstaken
One must admire the skill and knowledge of the operator, who obviously knows the capabilities of his machine intimately. Dennis
dave1905
That's a very common way to unload gons in the US since the 1970's or so. That is done with tractor type backhoes abd crawler backhoes too.
Baby Deltic
What happens when the excavator has dug out half the load and the stone beneath it starts to shift. Surely it will drop lower so it can't swivel. I suppose it must move along the train first, remove half the load from within the furthest wagon, then move onto the previous wagon which is still full and unload the other half of the furthest wagon's load from there, then repeat the process right back to the frame where it climbed on:blink:. halfwit
Risk assess that! Its like trials for diggers.....
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 17, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 17, 2010 Just look at some of the other clips. The one climbing a 30 metre (100 foot) tower is awesome. Also JCB put on displays of the versitility of their products.
Chameleon
As some of the comments mentioned, why not build a ranp? It would be much quicker and easier to get into the wagon. Also, once it has emptied the wagon, how the hell does it get back out?
Glorious NSE
That was a bit odd, this was the kind of thing i'd expected to see: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=Q4toJA5EXcM or Where the digger sits on the top of the car sides to unload, and is held there by guides, so whilst it looks wierd it's actually pretty safe to use. The one linked to in the OP does seem to drop inside the cars though, which would mean you would have to go to the end and unload your way down the train back to the platforms I guess? As to why not a ramp, they are on the track so must be movable, I presume doing it with two blocks instead of a long ramp means the excavator can "crane" them in/out of position without having to have any extra handling gear. Nice "classic" reporting marks there being reused by UP as well - Chicago Milwaukee and Omaha?
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted August 19, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 19, 2010 And here's a picture of the DMIR having a loading problem, You did close the hopper door before we went to lunch didn't you? Yeah pretty sure I did . . . . http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=334783&nseq=372 ah . . . . .
