Charlie B
Hi, I've bought a Bachmann Warship and will order a sound chip next week. I've listened to several on youtube and all seem similar. Can anyone give me a lead as to which to buy, and which speaker to order? I've a Class 47 with a SWD chip which is great, and a 108 DMU with an Oliva chip which is way, way too quiet. The chioce appears to be between the Howes and SWD. Also I need to get the DMU reprogrammed, is the Howes sound better? Regards Charlie
cassey jones
The Howes sound chips for both the Warship and DMU are superb. I have fitted two 23mm speakers fitted to the underside of the pcb board facing the tracks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCp_xp0l-O8 The Dmu I have is the 108 Howes this one is fitted with the standard speaker plus a bass enhanced one both sat in between the passenger seats. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVbh5NPBZso

Fitting the extra speakers, did you just wire them all in parallel? When the DMU is stripped down I will populate it at the same time. The internal lighting is disapointing so I may try and fit another strip of LEDs if I can find something suitable. Regards Charlie
Charlie B
Hi Cassey, I have today fitted the Howes sound chip to my Warship. I used "Blue Tac" to secure it to the main PCB facing upwards without its case. I would have liked it a little louder and I see you fitted two speakers in yours. Were they both 23mm and placed on top of the board facing up? A photo would help. Regards Charlie
cassey jones
Charlie, I fitted 2x 23mm round speaker to the under side of the PCB firing onto the tracks. There is just enough room to knock up a blue tac enclosure in front of the bogie rod. Hope that makes sense?
158722
Heard a Howes one in Trainsontime this week. Standard 23mm round with Blacktak speaker donut to create the sound box. Sounded amazing, like a little lorry. Totally of beam for me, era, area etc etc but nonetheless tempting.
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted October 26, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 26, 2013 I have two Baccy Warships and Howes seem to be 'sold out' of their sound chips at the moment. Are there any alternatives? What would folk recommend for a really Versatile Class 42 sound system? Does not need to include engine or hydraulics failure! Fairly sure both are 21 pin(without looking in box in loft). Incidentally, I have the Howes 108 in my 2 car unit and I think it sounds good. Many thanks, P

I didn't hear a single gear change though, is this one of the Hydraulic 108s? Paul
richard brown
It could be worth ringing howards as I think they blow the chips to order
Compbck
I recently fitted a sound decoder purchased from Howes to a Warship Class 42 "Hermes". Had to do some work to locate the speaker under a DIY false floor in the cab that had no crew installed. Not a difficult job. The sound quality for the end product is fantastic, and the loco runs really well.
