Spent a very pleasant day at my daughter's place, with her, her fiancé and his parents. A superb lunch was followed by a most enjoyable afternoon. It was their first Christmas in their new home and they were so nervous that everything should be just right - and it was. Back home now and can't decide between the grape and the grain. IMHO, a nice malt will go well with some cheeses, especially mature cheddars and stiltons. The softer and more creamy cheeses are too sweet to go with the pallette of most malts. I do enjoy a nice malt without cheese too, my doctor doesn't like me having more than a matchbox sized piece a day so generally I have a malt and a little filtered water, the cheese option is rare but enjoyable all the same. Having been educated by Scottish friend to drink my whiskey as 1finger whiskey and 1 finger spring water (and who am I to argue with a man who had a beard like a forest and who could use cabers as toothpicks), I have one everyday as my "drink before bedtime". Mostly, but not always, a 12 year old. However, once a year (and on my birthday) I have a wee dram of 50 year old single malt that I got for my 50th birthday (casked the year I was born, bottled the year I turned 50). Very nice, very complex single malt. Not one for sipping whilst doing anything else, but one for studiously savouring... And only another 6 months to go before my next wee dram of 50y.o. Consumable Christmas gifts included biscuits, chocolate liqueurs and a Stollen, but alas no single malt (not even from Mrs iD). We've finally consumed the turkey and trimmings and are settling down, well the others are, I'm waiting for a ballast to leave March so I can go and photograph it at the local station - in fact whilst typing this I notice it's on it's way. The videos will hopefully be Ok (ish) and for the still photos ? - spray and pray is the term that comes to mind - as long as the station lights have been left on I should get something - well..... Had a cracking day here visiting Homosassa Wild Life Park. A few photos attached, including rescued Manatees (aka Sea Cows) and lots of native wild birds....
