I despise B&Q, especially Sutton, where their bag-checking (even if you haven't been through the self-checkout) manages to get the idea that you're a potential thief across very nicely...

Happy Birthday Sherry - we're all a lot younger than our cronological age suggests. Mrs embraced the age by setting her cell phone ring tone to the Beatles classic, she loved it :)

I have two ring tones that describe quite aptly my departure from this world.

Either:

Highway to Hell (AC/DC)

or

Stairway to Heaven (Led Zep)

A Happy Birthday to Sherry I hope that you have had a good one thus far.

Good news! The student text to say that she got the job today so that is a weight of her shoulders. Just a shame more and more weight is being added to mine. The weather may have been warm and sunny all day, but the predicted storm seems to happening in my head instead. I am totally p###### off after a day of hassle upon hassle.

After landing the job of sorting part of the head's leaving "do", I have had people left right and centre offering their, well intentioned, advice without any offer of help! Within minutes of arriving this morning I had one member of staff questioning me on it. Then an email from someone else which I tried to answer at morning break, whilst dealing with questions from a further member of staff and trying to quell the rants and moans of another. By lunch time I was being questioned by a further member of staff on advice for next year, before spending 20 minutes with an irate parent at the end of the day. Any satisfaction of dealing with that particular problem was soon dispelled following an after school meeting and several further additional jobs coming my way. At the last count that would be 5 different sporting events, an after school sports fixture and some end of year awards all added to the jobs to do list. Time to find the nearest phone box and pull on the blue suit and red cape I think!

Sadly no word on the house move today. The office is closed until Thursday so we will have to wait a few more days.

I'm sitting here looking at a hummingbird sitting on the phone lines across the street, and a bald eagle spiralling upwards on a thermal several hundred yards away. Quite a difference in size!

Happy birthday, Sherry.

Morning all

I'm waiting for my tea to cool right down - tepid is best! Mercifully the broken tooth really hasn't been painful, and I can call the dentist in an hour. I slept well until about 4,45, then just dozed. The morning is lovely, we are promised 26 degrees, but by tonight it will be in retreat, with stormy events forecast for a couple of days.

Jock - the film Lawrence of Arabia opened with the sequence of the chap and his motorbike. This was filmed in the village where I went to skool - Betchworth.

Hope everyone's week gets under way well.

Can sympathise, Ian - one of mine broke up on nothing more than a teacake at lunchtime.  Soonest appointment next week.

Thunder storms this afternoon but thankfully no power cuts this time.

Polly

That tooth sounds like one of mine, Ian, but I lost it. It's over another gap, so chewing gets interesting! Glad you saved it. My excellent dentist (Romanian I think) saved another one, though.

Can I ask a question of the French ERers?

Our front door and wooden shutters need painting, south facing, lower Normandy.

The French paint I used last time (3-4 years ago) has failed completely. Bare wood showing.

Yet I've been told that where exterior paint is concerned to use the indigenous stuff as it's formulated for local conditions. I think that's merde and am aiming for Weathershield or similar (I'll go to a pro paint shop and get their advice).

And advice or recent experience?

Evening all, now down to just two fence panels to complete so I just need the weather to hold for one more day. Looks a bit ropey on Sunday however, when the family team hope to complete the work whilst I prepare the wages - one of my roast dinners! Fingers crossed. Archie the Westie guard dog is also a 'woof' alarm and I find it quite amazing that he doesn't react to family members or their cars, whereas delivery drivers, dust-carts, post-men (sorry, persons!) are all fair game. We haven't had a 'Jehovah' visit for a while : now that could be worth witnessing? (pun intended).

Have a peaceful night,

Kind regards,

Jock.

It took Robbie about a week to realise that our Clio had become a Fiesta. He does like to greet Aditi when she returns home. It is a different sound to the "stranger danger" bark. The Fiesta is going in for its annual service tomorrow, so I shall follow Aditi to the garage and then take her to the nearest station. I'll collect the car in the afternoon as Aditi doesn't leave work early enough to collect the car from the garage. I'm afraid I have got very used to the pickup and return serviced car option I use at the Land Rover dealer! Though I'm not complaining, the cost for the Fiesta service seems quite reasonable.

I had a panic this morning. I drove Julie and GD to drop off at school, then home.

Then about 10 my car alarm went off. It continued to go off at irregular intervals for a few hours. I phoned an ex-mechanic friend and he gave me the number of a company specialising in fixing such things - with the great name of Sounds Alarming! Arrangements made for the car to go in for diagnostic tests on Wednesday, but until then I was to leave it unlocked, which is a bit worrying because our drive is directly on to the pavement and we're going out all day tomorrow.

About 1 I realised that I'd left my phone in the car.

Then it gradually dawned on me - the phone makes a ping when I get an email or a notification on Facebook. One quick test showed that was the cause! The phone was triggering the alarm. I called Sounds Alarming and he said, "That'll do it..."

Could have told me earlier...  but on the other hand I reckon that's saved me about £70. About the same as that Dapol Terrier I've got my eye on...

And on Wednesday I get my old age pension.

Morning all...

Belated happy birthday, Sherry! Hope you had a great day.

I seem to have a hard time keeping up with information on the various different channels I have to monitor these days, so I apologise for being somewhat sporadic in my appearances on here at this time. At least it's just about two months to go till the summer holidays...

Morning All,

It is another nice sunny day in this part of the world.  It was rather a busy day yesterday and so I didn't get a chance to log on and catch up with events during the course of the day.

First of all, a belated Happy Birthday, Ashers.

Ian, glad your tooth is better now.  I remember the market in Mamers from my visit (which was quite a few years ago now).

One thought for the day - which is something that I can't fathom out.  There was a piece on the news this morning about the fact that one of the local towns is struggling to keep their swimming bath open.  The council want to close it because it will cost too much money to refurbish.  Which makes me wonder why - we don't have any less people than we did in the 60s when many of these places were built - so why do we have less money?  I realise this strays perilously close to politics, so probably better not to discuss it.  It does make me wonder though.

Have a good day everyone...

Morning..

Not so sunny but still warm here.

When is gloss white paint not gloss? When its quick drying (apparently) so another coat of paint required before I visit the eye doctor this morning.

Bit of weathering done last night ..hopefully photos of completed work will appear later

Have a good Tuesday everyone.

The rain did not come last night, but it has just started within the last five minutes and the sky looks suitably grey and dull. I would guess that this may excuse me from lunch time sports clubs today although I am sure that I will fill the time with some of the other jobs on my "to do" list.

Amber had a bad night last, and did not go to sleep until late, leaving Sarah stuck in the bedroom trying to settle her whilst I got the SATs tests marked. She woke up in the middle of the night too so I am faced with a dilemma this morning. Do I let them sleep in as both are stull slumbering at present, or do I wake them before I leave for work? Tough decision!

At least, once Amber drifted off, Sarah and I spent a little bit of time together last night. We have revived a routine from Christmas. One of the less common movie channels on Sky used to fill itself with Christmas movies from mid-November. They were all easy watching, complete dross, with endings that could be predicted within the first five minutes. But one would start just in time for us to watch before and as we got ready for bed. It was a nice peaceful time together. The same channel has non-festive films fitting the same time scale that also match the above description - so we have started watching them. Last night's film, Chateux Merloux (or something similar), had a story line that we predicted the ending to from the description before the film began - a new record!! The film featured a young girl taking on her deceased father's struggling vineyard and resisting the attempts from the evil neighbouring vineyard owner to buy her out by fair means or foul. The said vineyard owner co-opts his dashing young son to spy on the girl and you can guess what happens next!

We really know how to live it up!!!!

Enjoy your day everyone

Severe and slow moving thunderstorms here last evening; so had two, terrified `Collies to comfort for the duration........the infra-sound seemed to worry them more than the visuals and booms.

Having 'lost' many electronic items to lightning power surges over the years, I now disconnect most everything possible during such storms; so there`s quite a bit of clock resetting to do this morning.

Hoping today will be quieter......... :drag:

Good morning all, day of rest called for... 12 hours with the GC's was more than enough.  Though the youngest one did find a big box of Biro (and it's Ikea equivalent) track.....what fun I'm going to have tomorrow!

Must pack up the box that's going to Canada today, and one of the 0e locos that's off to Greece...

Try to make the best of what the day throws at you,

Trev.

A few radom thoughts

Polly was it a Rockcake?

Gordon you may not be familiar with Vale but the term Valedictory as in a Valedictory Speech was more common.

All our dogs got used to the sound of our car when someone a few doors up got a similar model it caused some confusion.

Don

G'morning everybody. I hope you all had good nights.

Lovely day here so far, was having a cup of tea and a read in the garden at midnight, with the stars and roving cats for company.

Problem of shutter and door paint possibly solved - paint and then yacht varnish. Thinking about that one.

Off in a minute* to see grandsons in Bermondsey, which is always a treat.

*After 9.30. Otherwise we're Twirlys.
