It's sunny, but not as sunny as yesterday, breakfast has been consumed and tea drunk.

Today I will be travelling north on the M6 to Morecambe and Lancaster.

A good nights sleep, I awoke after 5 hours as usual, and was comtemplating getting up when I fell asleep again so 6.5 hours sleep was acheived!!!

 

 

There's a documentary on BBC1 about sleep tonight at 21.00 - might be worth a look.

Morning all and it's overcast here, today. 

 

The youngest is off on a 5-day residential next week. I know it's the kids that are meant to miss their parents, but the place is going to feel pretty empty without him (no disrespect to his sibling!). Not sure how many of the empty-nestERs on here feel when their kids finally move out; probably have a massive party, clear out the newly created spare room and build a model railway! 

 

Today I shall be mostly constructing a project plan and thinking about risk budgets. I'm also going to sit a practice exam. 

 

Physio-terror is going ok with much improved mobility in my arm. Time to keep doing exactly what I was told to do - no more, no less. 

 

In a moment of clarity last night I decided to remove the only point on my new layout's "countryside" baseboard.  I felt that a 5' x 2' board would look too crowded with more than one section of N gauge track. 

 

In celebration of a soon-to-be completed orbit I've been asked to compile a birthday wishlist. I'd considered asking for a steam loco to work alongside my 5MT; a late crest 57xx, possibly?

 

A slug has eaten a couple of my nasturtium seedlings. So far the newly planted sweet peas have remained intact.

Morning all from a very nice and sunny village.   Last night went a lot better than expected and a very pleasant evening was had, possibly the amount of liquid that was disposed of helped and Beth cooked an excellent meal that finished off with Rhubarb Fool using Rhubarb from the front garden.

 

A leisurely breakfast has been consumed whilst we caught up on some TV and finished watching another episode of Broadchurch 2.

 

Now the day stretches ahead.   I have two objectives:-

 

1.  To get three baseboard crates out of the next door neighbours garage as he is about to have some building work done so I will be re arranging the shed and taking the backscenes over to the container.

2.  Make  a determined effort to sort the final pile of detritus on the floor in the modelling room and actually expose some of the floor covering.  Maybe watching a piece about the next alien movie on Breakfast TV is not the best way to prepare for this event.

 

Then get thing ready for my trip to London tomorrow to the ER's lunch.

I’ll tell you what it will state:  Be healthy and have between 8 and 9 hours sleep minimum. Maybe you can do that if you work for the BBC.........

 

I can’t remember the last time I had 8 hours sleep - the last two nights I’ve barely had 2.5 hours each night.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit late this morning, overslept again, at least I'm getting enough sleep. Even though they were delivering the paving blocks for the neighbours new drive at about 07:00 am I still slept through it. Still a bit sleepy mostly due to hay fever which is not to bad at the moment. Thats all for now, be back later.

Hmm.  Currently dealing with matters not for ER consumption, which require a lot of to-ing and fro-ing of telephone calls.  Lounge telephone ran out of charge, odd as the calls have been quite short although numerous.  Wobbled off down to the garage on my crutches and got the other handset.  Two minutes into a call from showing full charge, it cut out.  Planned obsolescence?  Both going duff battery at the same time? Harrumph.

 

Had to get an old phone out - which although electronic uses pulse dialling - ever tried to get through a menu driven system without a tone dialler?     

 

New phones ordered.  Temper frayed.

I don't like those systems that ask you to speak the number or name.

I always get the response "I'm sorry I didn't get that...". I don't think it is a computer voice recognition system I think it is just someone having a laugh.

Our house phone can be used while it is its charging cradle, to avoid shouting it can be used in hands-free mode while in the charger too.

G'day all,

 

Very ER today as the cats got me out of bed at 05.00 in order for me to feed them.  Didn't sleep much after that and had a reasonably early start anyway as I was off to see Sister Diabetes - her first appointment of the day and i was called in nearly 15 minutes after booked time.  Not bad overall but the kidney number has got worse so it might mean a medication change and the thyroid number has changed (dunno what that means and neither did she so she said I needed an appointment with the Doctor but no rush - just as well as all his appointments up to 16 June are fully booked and 'the system' doesn't go beyond then).

 

Anyway otherwise all fairly positive - feet greatly admired, weight loss admired (yes, honest - for those who know me by sight), and otherwise all ok but please cut down on the chocolate.

 

All in the world currently well as home made leek and potato soup is about to be served.

The French group that Aditi attends has been asked if they would be willing to help out the local tractor factory. Some French chaps will be attending some event there. Their wives are having a day in London and they are looking for someone to guide them through any language difficulty. I think Aditi may get the job being one of the younger more mobile group members.

"A visit to the tractor factory" does sound like a Soviet propaganda film title.

Another mundane day in the office punctuated by the PM turning up to visit a charity in our block. She and her security enterage has now departed. And now a few colleagues are busy posting photos. Me didn't have the same enthusiasm as per the last well known visitors.

 

Not the best nights sleep but I did get a few more hours than Pete Trisonic did.

 

Trying to find a way to get out the office tomorrow lunchtime so I can meet up near Old Street but not looking too promising with no live project to visit. We shall see.

On peering out of the window this morning  I observed the car was covered in Frost again, but by the time I left 3/4 an hour later it had melted..

 

Isn't it funny how sometimes you misread things accidentally. When I read the above the first time I read it as "On peeing out the window" - ho-hum I thought.

 

Overcast here today after a lovely day yesterday.

 

The neighbour's funeral was well attended but we didn't go to the "wake" as we didn't know many of the people attending

Glorious day gain here, so the annual hedge trimming has begun. It will take a while!!

 

No communication back from the Ford dealer about my failed car, so I called them and it appears that the average mechanics are stumped by it and are waiting the the "Master Tech" who will be in tomorrow. Seems to be a wiring issue as far as they can tell, it why it was suddenly faulty beats me.

My former Land Rover (Ford Diesel engine had an intermittent fail to start. Specialist land rover recovery man tells me he will soon have it fixed as it was clearly an earth fault. After a minute he said it wasn't. It was a faulty coil in one sector of the starter motor. If it was attempted to start and it happened to be in that position, it wouldn't as a working starter motor sensor was one if the many items required for the engine management to initiate a start. New starter fitted all ok. The Land Rover chap proved it by bypassing lots of sensors Edited May 11, 2017 by Tony_S

BIN day arrives, and with it BINs to the kerb - well, one anyway, next week is recycle BIN week.

 

Only happening yesterday was a communication from the local garage explaining that the parts for the exhaust system weren't in! Apparently, someone cancelled the order!!

All been reordered but since a couple of the parts are now out-of-stock at the local distributor, they are being expressed in from Madison, Wisconsin. Not sure how "express" it is, given I can drive to Madison in about 7 hours, and they don't expect the parts until Monday or Tuesday   "at the earliest"

So much for having Jemmas car available while she was gone, so we had transport whilst ours was being fixed.

 

Off to the airport around noon to pick up Jemma.

 

Today will be my POE(TF) as tomorrow will be a day off. The Mrs and I are travelling to NY on a morning flight.

Mrs spending the weekend with me on Long Island - we've tickets for an Aretha Franklin concert Saturday.

Not sure what else we'll get up to, but one request to be duly done will be a trip to the Brooklyn Art Museum as there is a Georgia O'Keeffe exhibit that the Mrs is particularly keen to see. I'm not fussed, but, as Sunday IS Mothers Day here, it seems like a good choice/present. (Brownie points anyone!!)

End of the economy drive?  Back in 1994 when our office at Swindon was closing down I saved (quite legitimately as it happens ) several packets of coloured printer paper from the skip - I have just used the final four sheets of the green paper, which had been the final survivor of the various colours I rescued.  Is this a record I wonder?
