RMweb Premium TheQ Posted June 3, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 3, 2019 Mooring Awl, inner Temple Hare, Sleep.. Lots of bit of it all afternoon, however about 6 hours were still had over night. It got very hot and humid here yesterday afternoon, quite unpleasant and they are forecasting even higher today. Though the local forecast is for just 19C However I'm told we are shopping in Norwich this morning. I may attack the jungle with the mower in the afternoon. For now Time for more sleep..
Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all, with warm greetings to Jamie and Beth on or near their ruby wedding anniversary! I was an impulsive creature yesterday and decided to visit DEMU at Swadlincote, which I did not know is in Derbyshire. Three hours was enough to give two favourite layout a proper viewing and to buy a replacement plastic cutter. It was good to have a brief encounter with local resident Andrew P in addition to many of the usual suspects. Not so good was my decision to put petrol in the car at Kettering because it is no longer a bargain there. Needless to say it was cheaper in Swad. On the outskirts of Gloucester on Saturday, by contrast, I saved 7p a litre compared with the stand and deliver prices that prevail in Bedford. Later I came home with two books that I had not considered purchasing until the moment that I bought them. I enjoyed the six Welsh cakes that I bought, ie two with each cuppa. All in all I have done quite enough driving for one weekend, especially as the Sunday homeward leg was through a cloudburst. The week ahead is due to be quiet until Saturday save for a Loco Club meeting on Tuesday. Saturday promises to be quite busy, with the first Cambridge Pride starting at noon preceded by a parade of punts at 11 am. To avoid confusion, a punt in this case is a flat bottomed boat associated with the River Cam and propelled by a person with a pole. I don’t get to march this time. Boo! In the evening Martin Simpson is in concert at St Neots and anyone who claims to appreciate guitar wizardry should consider attending. Travel arrangements could be complicated due to event times. At the moments it looks as though I must drive to and from the Madingley Road park and ride terminal outside Cambridge, pausing at St Neots on the way home for the concert. As park and ride buses are involved I must try not to get knocked over again. Best wishes to all Chris 11

RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted June 3, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 3, 2019 Morning all. About an hour again I was presented with a cup of tea, It was quite a surprise to learn that it was about 5am. I suspect there will be some tidying today as some friends are coming for dinner this evening. The meal is prepared apart from vegetables. I suspect there will be now dark green vegetables. I had a letter last week from the hospital mentioning folate deficiencies, and it requested that my GP either give me supplements and/or dietary advice. Aditi is always keen to encourage my intake of vegetables so I suspect the GP won’t be too unhappy. Tony 15
Popular Post Robert
Morning All, Much too hot is probably the best way to describe the weather at the moment! The temperature climbled to 32°C yesterday afternoon. I am back in the office this morning after a quiet weekend. I did some work on my new layout - so I think I will probably start a new thread shortly. Have a good day everyone...

RMweb Gold Popular Post Happy Hippo Posted June 3, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 3, 2019 (edited) I checked the weather report yesterday evening to ascertain whether putting a load of washing into the machine overnight would be worthwhile. The verdict was a 40% chance of rain. One opening the curtains at 0640, the sun was shining with clear blue skies. However, this is Telfland, so I'm expecting Noah to begin loading the ark within the next half hour or so. Yesterday, I dismantled the desk in the workshop and broke it up prior to it's delivery to the tip. I always try and scavenge any real timber from such works of art, but I was reduced to collecting a few edging strip. the rest being veneered chip board. The space created in the workshop was then filled with the chest of drawers that had resided in the bathroom. This had greatly increased the storage cube of the workshop as well as increasing the floor space. It has also given my a sturdy flat top at a decent height on which to store both my rolling and bending bars. This is merely a temporary arrangement until another area is remodelled and then it can become home to the oldest of the Obergrumpenfuhrer's three laptops and my Curio cutter. A pseudo cnc bay is planned I see a cloud! Edited June 3, 2019 by Happy Hippo 16

RMweb Gold Popular Post Kingzance Posted June 3, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 3, 2019 Mawning dawning, Muggertea No1 consumed, visit of daughter anticipated later this morning and we will need to go to hers at school kicking out time as it is eldest granddaughter’s eleventh birthday today. She has the necessary/obligatory attitude for her age sometimes but is such a miniature member of the species that she is shorter than her 9yo brother and barely taller than her 6yo sister. She can be, however, an absolute delight to spend time with and, given the experiences of my recent extended birthday celebrations, she makes a mean G&T! And England are playing at Trent Bridge too! Yesterday just kind of disappeared without trace! I watched about half of Bangladesh’s victory at Kennington Oval but must admit that, had I been present, the antics of groups of people jumping up and down in the direct line of sight for many spectators would have spoiled the watching of the game. SWMBO spent most of the evening glued to Britain having little talent but lots of trashy television. Meanwhile, I completed the rescaling of Twerton tunnel portal, printed and located it on Kingzance. I am happy with the outcome although it needs painting and the landscape blending up to it. Thick card is still to be fixed to the plywood formers I have carefully shaped and set to create the approach cutting and then a number of trees will needed to populate the slope. The trees can wait until everything along that section is otherwise complete. An order was placed with Fraggle Rock’s railway modelling supplier for the necessary signals (in kit form, and to be built operational) and some telegraph poles. May the sun shine on your endeavours and evaporate the clouds of despair / illness / troubles over those suffering. 19
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted June 3, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 3, 2019 (edited) Good morning all, Sun is shining. Knee is aching. (as usual) Last night's steak was, according to The Boss , "The best you've ever done!" I thought it was OK but not quite that good. Shed not visited, maybe today but first up a trip to the bank and shops is required. Have a good one, Bob. PS. I too missed the "talent" show. Instead I watched Guy Martin jumping out of aeroplanes which I found quite enjoyable. Edited June 3, 2019 by grandadbob
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted June 3, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 3, 2019 Good morning everyone The sun is shining here in the northwest of England, but according to the seaweed twirlers, we’ll have rain, thunder and lightning for the majority of the rest of the week. Breakfast has now been consumed and Sheila is about to get herself ready for her Zumba class. Once she’s gone, I’ll mix a second batch of waterproofing solution and once again apply to the cellar walls. After that I’ll give all the equipment a good clean before tidying up, ready for the fixing of plasterboard to the walls to commence, which will probably be on Wednesday. After tea tonight the plan plan is to go to Salford Quays and jump in, complete 3 laps, then return home for a beer, sounds like a plan to me! Back later
Popular Post AndrewC
Greetings all from the boring borough. 'twas sunny when I started typing but is quickly clouding over. Yesterday I asked "I wonder what steaming pile of merde...." I'd find upon returning to work after 2 weeks off. Well that turned out to be prophetic. First thing I received this am was a Skype message asking if I could go to Paris this week. <quickly googles the French translation for 'bite my shiny metal a$$'> Google says: mordre mon cul en métal brillant. Some how I doubt it will actually happen but who knows. These waste of time trips always pop up at the worst possible moment. We are down to the last week of the in-law tourists. I think everyone is getting tired. The past 2 days have been nothing but puttering about the house and taking it easy. I had hoped to get some more clearing of the shed done but that didn't happen. Time to get back to the day job. Coffee awaits. Enjoy the day. 3
RMweb Premium Dave Hunt Posted June 3, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 3, 2019 Muggocoffee consumed, various bits of niff naff and trivia done and now about to go and sort out delivery of Dad's mobility scooter. Later on there is a lot of writing to do so not a particularly exciting day ahead. Have a good one everybody and commiserations for those who don't. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 3, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 3, 2019 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Will finish excavating the shed today to recover the workmate. I can see it but I have to remove a lot of rubbish to be able to reach it. A bit cooler today but still muggy and the thermometer indoors is already at 24.5 C. The replacement tea arrived just now and it is the right stuff so its just a case of decanting it into the tea caddy. Thats all for now, be back later.

Dave I was furious when my mother just GAVE my late father's mobility scooter away. I had plans for the motors, batteries and speed controller. You can guess what for! Funnily enough, I've just found some of his father's tools boxed up in our garage roof. The engineers square is marked ROF, so is probably dates from around 1940 when he was seconded from the GWR to assist in sorting out the production line for 25 pounder guns at the ROF Factory, Birchgrove. Best go and make more mess in the spaces I've just cleared up..................... One day I might get around to actually throwing something away!

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted June 3, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 3, 2019 Afternoon Awl, Knackered, just back from 5 hours traipsing around Norwich. Ben is giving us the I want to traipse too. But he'll have to wait until a Muggacoffee has been had. Half a dozen second hand or discounted books bought. One or two on an unmentionable subject. New cheapo glasses bought to replace pairs variously destroyed. Minor supplies bought for muddling, from pound and other discount shops. 25kg of Border Collie has arrived on my lap making it difficult to type, I think he's giving a hint. See you later...
RMweb Gold Shedman5 Posted June 3, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 3, 2019 Afternoon, penance day today, the lawns have been mowed and the edges trimmed, cars washed and vacuumed and a few other bits and bobs under direction of the boss. Fair game really as the weekend was a mixture of model railway exhibition (Liverpool) watching sport ie tennis/football/cricket/rugby +time in the shed! Shame the weekend is over really. Sun is shining and its very pleasant, barbecue for tea then maybe grab an hour to finish a couple of things in the shed. Enjoy your day
bbishop
A quick warning to those of us who haven't converted our investments into modelling tokens. Our beloved Chancellor has seriously reduced the investment allowance before which there is a tax liability. It was £2,000 for dividends in the last tax year. Not sure what it is for interest received, but then in the present climate who keeps more than a few bob in cash. Bill
Popular Post Ian Abel
Fat lot of good it did me posting an optimistic paragraph or two Saturday... About an hour after posting I started feeling extremely fatigued, began running a temperature and generally feeling listless and carp Spent the remainder of Saturday basically relaxing/resting/napping! Slept well and Sunday was as if it was another person pretending to be me all Saturday! We decided to NOT go to the cabin for the day as that'd have meant some exercising in the form of lawn mowing (large area) and various yard/garden cleanup activities. The Mrs determined I'd be better off not exerting myself too much to be sure we'd conquered whatever lurgy had affected me. Instead, did some reviewing of the needs for our other house instead, including measuring for a small garden shed (garden tools for the use of, NOT railway), determining some options for landscaping and ordering some replacements for broken screens. That together with some preliminary work for our fund raiser committee responsibilities and whoosh, there went Sunday Working today (surprise!!), and this evening a committee meeting. Weather all weekend was very pleasant (though I only viewed it from the prone position on the couch or bed Saturday). Today started at 15 headed for 28 with partly sunny skies. Carpe diem. 3

RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted June 3, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 3, 2019 I went out to get my haircut but the barber was on holiday, returning tomorrow. The plumber who did our boiler installation a few years ago was working over the road today and popped over to re-route an overflow pipe ( from water softener) that was now inside the garage after the garage door was moved.
