Cold day for me.

Was going to take some good old Night Nurse last night but it went out of date in 2018 :/  Then found out half our medicines were out of date!  Odd stuff we've obviously bought.  Cleared that out at 8:00pm last night and went to bed.

Gonna have to buy some Night Nurse today.  It's expensive but great for helping with colds.

One of those old things me mother said that I'll tell my kids too!

Careful with night nurse. If you have drugs and alchohol testing at work you will fail the test. ...a trick used by some to get paid time off...

Well the sun has buqqered off, but it is still dry!  Getting a touch breezy though.  Afternoon spent cleaning motorbike to be Px'd rather than with trains.  Not quite a komfy kruiser like the BMW!  Lorra fun though.

Generic greetings, best wishes, commiserations etc  one and all.

Ive been popping in daily just to keep up with things but its been a busy few weeks.......went out for a ride one bright and sunny day and as I was pootling up the road various warning lights started angrily signalling to me ........

Turns out the alternator went....... so been busy stripping the bike down ( it's buried deep under the tank) sourcing a replacement, sussing the way it comes apart and putting it all back together again!

BMW quoted me nearly £700 for a replacement, £150 for a battery plus Labour plus vat and was looking at a bill of around £1500.

Managd to get a warranted replacement from a national breakers ( ex plod bike!) for £45 and an identical Excide battery from a local battery shop for £80.

Thanks to a little help from a friend, and UTube we managed it and it cost me £125, some skinned knuckles and a load of tea and bacon banjos.

OK, I had to spend out on some torx sockets  (£30) and a new multimeter (£9) but as they will be reused again I don't count them into the cost!

Much satisfaction gained when the starter was pushed and all did what it should, confirmed by a blast of a test run where the bike ( and me) were pushed to the limit just to make sure!

By my way of reckoning I now have £1200 to spend on goodies for the layout.....

So now it's time to relax......a weekend in Newquay with a bit of fancy dress and a posh do thrown in, lots to eat and great company so hopefully alls well.

Catch up soon.

Nelly.

ps don't forget the clocks go back to 1970 at 2300 tonight. ;)

Same happened to son's car (not quite in the B.. class) and with no money sourcing a replacement took a (long) while.  He has  posted a video clip of the engine running bu also said ...why we've got the front off might as well replace (one or two) other bits and pieces.  It does have rather a lot of miles on the clock!

1970 saw me finish my apprenticeship and was planning firstly to go to the Bath Festival, which we did, then hitch hike across to Kabul in Afghanistan(you could have done in those days), which we didn't. Me and a pal set off from Harwich to the Hook of Holland, went to Amsterdam and lost a few weeks(I have a vague idea what we did, but daren't repeat it just in case SWMBO reads this lol). We ended meandering through western Europe before running out of money and enthusiasm in the middle of France and came back to blighty after about 3 months, joined a band and went to live in London.

Afternoon All

I felt better the minute my new lady friend walking into the café this morning, she is very much up on the world of cars she was agog as I know the chap who builds the

McLaren  FI front wings, our time together whizzed by so we agreed to meet up for lunch and continue our conversation.

Oddly enough when driving home I started to feel tired again got back indoors had something to eat then fell asleep I'm hoping its cleared as I feel OK now.

I like the Moped Neil is it the wives one. :jester:

I must agree with Baz about Boeing they are the only aircraft to go technical when I've travelled on them never been on a duff Airbus or other makes De-Havilland, Vickers, BAE.

Spose I better get on and do something enjoy what's left of it. :superman: I. V. Ebindozin :boredom:

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. 1970? That was the year I started with an employer who I stayed with until my retirement thirty seven years and seven months later. Ironically I was very unhappy with my previous job due to a manager whose behavior was much the same as that endured by Andy Ram. In fact the pay was slightly better and the place of work was within walking distance.

Can I use that trick to get out of doing jobs that SWMBO sets for me please.

As to Brisbane. I hope that your taxi driver didn't fall asleep in the long tunnel like ours did. He did not get a tip.

Evening all,

It would have been 'afternoon all' but I got jumped after the update had loaded by 'somebody else' sitting down at the keyboard before I got back.  Makes a change from the cat coming in and sitting down - presumably to check his emals.

GDB is correct, the UK joined the EU on 01 January 1973so I'm not quite sure what 1970 has to do with the EU - was it the year we asked to join?  I can definitely remember some 'joining' I did in 1970 and it was still going on until a parting in late 1973 although in the longer run I was definitely better off out of that particular 'joining'.   In 1970 I was commuting from here up to London daily, for most of 1973 my daily commute was from the centre of Cardiff to Radyr, but I ended the year walking a couple of hundred yards every day to work at Swansea High St and seemed to spend my weekends at Radyr tuning a BR Mini to make it accelerate when you put your foot down and improve on about 28mpg.  Muvch better than the newish Escort I had to use a Newport a month or two later - the gear lever on that came off in my hand in the middle of Newport High St (the actual street, not the station of that name).

All is set, I think , for an earliyish start in the direction of alton tomorrow, I see the doors don't open until 1030 but i wonder when the carpark gates open?

Enjoy the rest of your evening one and all.
