c.t ? is that Cape Town?

CT in this case is Connecticut.

Aditi started writing to Roxanne (aka Rocky) well over forty years ago after seeing a pen-friend request in Rolling Stone magazine. Last time Rocky visited us was in the days of the Laker Skytrain.. She had just got divorced and needed a break so spent her remaining money on an airfare. We went and stayed there in 2009 and had a great time. Rocky's husband doesn't really want to fly long haul anywhere but is prepared to make an exception to see us. He had flown a lot in his military career and even more in his subsequent career in finance. He just drives to work now and lets other people go on the trips!

As for the other C T (Cape Town). I've never been there. I think the nearest I have been is the coastal waters off various North African countries. My nephew went to Cape Town to visit his girlfriend who had a week off from her study placement at a hospital in Port Elizabeth (from where she originally came from before settling in the UK). However I believe that romance is now over so I suspect trips to Cape Town for my nephew are no longer on the cards.  Some of Aditi's relatives in India go to South Africa for holidays. I know they go on business to other countries in Africa but I don't recall business trips being mentioned in connection with Cape town.

Did we lose a whole bunch of posts this morning? I lost at least three (that I can remember)..........

Best, Pete.

It would seem so. I distinctly remember replying to your post and saying I would be back soon but to the Canadian bit of North America and that friends from CT would be coming to see us this summer.

I also had a post saying happy fortieth to Robert and mentioned that mine was quite memorable as it was spent in Rochford Hospital's special care baby unit where Matthew was being treated.

Eating breakfast and watching a house being demolished in the street below us. It's a small wooden-framed house, and the backhoe that's attacking it should have it cleared up by lunchtime. I'll be interested to see what goes up in its place. Our area of smaller, generally older (by local standards!) homes is slowly being 'discovered', which means some houses are being bought, knocked down and replaces by houses with three times the floor area and a tenth of the charm.

Afternoon all.

My son is down so I've been occupied with him - some local photgraphy and generally relaxing, he goes back tomorrow sadly.

Happy Birthday to Robert.

Hope we all have/had a good day.

Happy Birthday Robert!  40 eh.  That takes me back a bit!.....Almost 25 years ago to be precise....

Just had the best day's golf ever, posting a record low score for me and our team of four winning the competition.  Of course that is bad news on the modelling front, but there's plenty of time and golf is just great right now.  The funniest thing was two of the girls from behind the bar sidling over to me and just when I thought I'd done something wrong, they smiled and said 'was that you on Eggheads last week"?

My 15 minutes of fame has just arrived... :D

One of my posts this morning that went AWOL mentioned a 16 year old's (friend of my daughter) super ass and legs - I thought Andy had punished me........................

I can till say Happy Birthday to Robert, though. As you can see naughty thoughts still occur in one's 60's....

Best, Pete.

Happy birthday, Robert! Sorry I'm posting only now as I felt fairly off the track after work...

There appears to have been an oil spill in our street in the afternoon – fire brigade cordoned off a good length of it, then to first put out binder and later clean everything up with what looked like a specialised road sweeper.

And the rabbits are feeling comfortable, as it would seem:

They probably fancy a ride in a supercar. Shrewd move not mentioning the trains.

Did we lose a whole bunch of posts this morning?

Hi Pete,

RMweb was moved to new HP Blade Servers this morning: http://www.dediservestatus.com/index.php?cmd=view&id=70

By rights the site should have been turned off while it was done. But the migration was done live, so any changes to the database while it was in progress will have been lost.

The new servers are much faster with no moving parts, so we should be seeing a faster, more reliable RMweb from now on.

regards,

Martin.

One of the most apt street names was Horsepool Road in Brixham. Frequently used by riders for access to Southdown and the bridleways so someone blanked the L out and made the name truly apt.

hello all,

A lovely day has dawned. Top half of the mountain is bathed in sunlight, the lower half still in shade

Max forecast is 27C. Cooler than yesterday's 30+

Congratulations Gordon on the Golf result.

Morning All,

Thanks for all the Birthday wishes guys.  I dropped in and posted yesterday afternoon, but it seems the post got lost in the aether somewhere.

Anyway - the temperature is a little higher this morning at 2°C and the snow has more or less gone.

Have a good day everyone...
