d winpenny
You certainly have plenty of space to play with Any ideas on your scenic setting yet? im thinking of setting it in a small industrial town with a station on the front board then a tmd/ engineers sidings at the back, with maybe a small industrial estate on one corner
d winpenny
heres a quick update using trusty paint i have designed a rudimentary track plan to explain the basic idea of my plan the yard tmd area needs some development but i will go into more detail when i get some track to play about with
508EMU
Looks great! Plenty of room to fit everything in, will be a great one. Love the RAMP sign by the way, I have lots of junk in my house too! Will be interested to see how this layout takes shape. Luke

RMweb Gold jamest Posted November 10, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2010 Hi, Welcome to the forum. Probably would have been better to mention this before but you seem to be hugging the inner edge of your boards with the track. Have you considered using larger radius track? Or putting straights in on the full radius ends to move the track 'out'? even if its only on the station side. I don't mean to be critical, and I know reach is sometimes a problem, but the bigger the loop the better (in my opinion :-)). All the best anyway cheers, James

All the best anyway cheers, James hi james, thanks for your opinion, i always like to here other peoples ideas, the reason the track is like it is is i wanted to keep as much of the outer area free on the back board for the tmd area but ive got a bit of room to play with so i will have a mess around when i get some more track nothing is pined down at this stage so its not to difficult to chop and change cheers, david
Markeg
Hi David, Looks like a good layout design. Very functional. I was going to suggest the idea of larger radius curves as this will look better and you can put a MPD inside and if you have any trouble with rolling stock is is easier to reach them. You can still put a couple of sidings on the outside for carriage/train storage. I have much the same design with 900mm radius curves and the locos and rolling stock including a few kit locos & Silver Jubilee set run much better. Keep playing around with it and see what best suit you. Mark
d winpenny
time for an update i think, i found some station signs in my bits box so the layout now has a name "flossett" . Not much in the way of track work but i had a good time at the wakefeild exhibition at the weekend and i bought some old Hornby mgr hoppers at a bargain price the look good behind my my coal sector 56 some pictures below, i also bought a class EWS 56 on ebay which bring my fleet to 4 class 56s I plan to renumber the second to 56119 a locomotive seen running local to myself, at the moment 56059 is away at Hornby works for coupling repairs and to the second 56059(56119) is out of traffic due to control issues (no dcc chip) . d winpenny
just a quick update, having listened to advice i have widened the layout and lethened to make the most use of the space and adjusted the siding set up but still nothing set in stone i am still planning to lenthen the layou by another 2ft here is a rough plan of what i plan to do the grey track is what i have already and the black is what im planning to do advice and critsisism welcome first of all here is the current track plan and now here is what im hoping to do
d winpenny
just another quick update, still nothing to really update as the layout has not altered since i last posted due to budget restraints, this is more of a fleet update as i now have 3 fully operational class 56's complete with all there buffers dcc chipped and complete draw gear this is due to 56128 being canabalised for spare parts, and has been relagated to storage until spares can be sourced faling that it will be released for spares and repairs if that is the case it will hopefully be replaced by 56125 with dcc sound. hopefully i will have further updates next month where the plan of attack is to start is to get the platform for the station area, while i continue to decide on the final track plan, and the possible extension is still not out of the question, i have attached a couple of photos of my 56 fleet to date which should again funds permitting be moving light engine to cairn road works for weathering and renumbering in the case of the second 56059(to become 56119)
d winpenny
been nearly a month since my last post, there has been a small update as network rail have relaid the sidings and added a passing loop, then it was time for a test and running session ^New network rail vans courtesy of wicked obvious models david
shortliner
How do you get from the inside track to the outside track without reversing???
d winpenny
at the moment you the only way is to use the cross over in the station. i plan to adjust this when i put in the extension board david
blue star control
I like the diagram you've got there! I shall keep tabs on this layout to see how it pans out
d winpenny
time for another update again due to money troubles very little has been done on the layout itself however i have after much searching managed to aquire a Hornby dcc sound 56125 at last i will endeavour to get a video up as soon as and yet agen i have revised the track plan as ever critisims welcome david
multiprinter
I would move the crossover to one end of the station clear of the platforms, otherwise your longer locos and stock will hit the platforms when using the crossover(Or the platforms will need to be set back from the track which always looks unconvincing). d winpenny
thanks for the advice, i will take it into consideration but until i get some more platform its kinda a mute point at present. here is my to do list build baseboard extension buy rest of track pin down and ballast finish station complete town area (front area) complete yard/industrial area (back board right corner) senic any remaining areas so as u can see theres alot to do david
d winpenny
right just a breif update i have been given permission to move the layout to the other side of the loft so i can extend it the the entire 18ft david

Mark 37
It might just be me, but your ramp sign looks a little over scale. Mark
Katier
Personally I'd agree with Jamest and move the oval out beyond 50% of the board width then bring the TMD inside the oval. The benefit of this is you can extend the station and slacken the curves with flexi-track, which should allow longer trains and more coaches in the station. The TMD being inside the oval isn't a problem because, being a TMD it doesn't 'need' the length, it's accomodating a lot of single units.
