Hi Dave,

Well you have been busy,:D the extra station details look great, I am hoping to get some work done on Llanbourne this year, and like you I have just finished a TPO.

I can't see a kitchen in the shove duff though.;) The real thing did have a stove at one end, I had a bit of a snooze in a class 47 cab once and had to rest my feet on the stove to stop it rattling.:D

Your pics of 47461 on the TPO had me looking for an old Rail supp on parcels trains, there is a nice pic of 47461 on a TPO train at Aberdeen with an up special.

Cheers Peter.

Alex - Thanks. The 47 is currently numbered as 640. I'm thinking of changing it at the moment, possibly to either 636 or maybe 578, as the black headcode is wrong for 640.

Dave

To quote from Father Ted, "Careful now".

578 had a very strange BR sign on one side and was one of the first Scottish large logo repaints having the black by the cab windows extended over the cab doors. Link to photo below:

636 would be a lot easier to model!

Yep, you're right. I'd forgotten that when I replied to Grimley. Large logo 636 is what the original Heljan loco was based on, so it will probably be easiest just to revert to that. Shawplan nameplates have already been ordered. Thanks for the photo links by the way, Flood. :D

Cheers,

Dave

Hi folks,

Just thought I'd post a few more pics...

47461 sits at Platform 14 awaiting its departure time...

post-7247-0-15495700-1295520391_thumb.jpg

An HST leaves Platform 19 for Aberdeen as a rake of HEAs passes through the station behind 37191...

post-7247-0-20342900-1295520428_thumb.jpg

And finally 47707 at speed on a service from Inverness. I'm still not quite happy with the finish of this loco, as I think it's too matt so a trip back to the works may be in order.

post-7247-0-08769200-1295520562_thumb.jpg

Sorry if you're getting bored of the speed format, but I like it. But then you knew that anyway. :D

Work on 47701 is also progressing with the correct underframe fuel tank/battery box assembly now finished. I still haven't decided whether to respray it or not. It's looking a bit tatty at the moment but then that's how they often were.

Work is also progressing on the Coal Sector 26 with the underframes now sprayed and ready for weathering powders to be applied.

I'm also repainting a couple of the BRUTES red as I've seen a few red ones in photos of Waverley during the 80s. I'm also painting a tractor unit (not sure what they're called?) for them which I still have from an old Hornby station set, probably from around 35 years ago (yikes). It's not very detailed but it's going to be on the far platform and there wasn't much to them anyway I don't think from what I've seen. Sorry if I've upset any devoted aficianados of them in saying that.

Better go and do some work I s'pose.

Cheers for now,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Great to see all your progress updates. Some stunning photography and I for one really like those at speed photos - you know you will have to take some on my Viaduct when it is finished! I quite like the matt dirty finish on your 47 it seems to capture what I have seen in photos of the time. Perhaps the Scottish ones looked more glossy because they are wet with rain most of the time!

The detail work really brings the units to life especially looking at your 107 full of people. I also really like the tiger stripes on the HST power car as that is something that isn't often modelled. The detail work will be well worth the effort especially with what you have done so far as the lighting really helps to set it all off rather well.

I will be at Glasgow all 3 days with DEMU so come along and say hello as it will be nice to meet you in person. I should have my finished station building with me as well! Better get on with it.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Dave,

Great pictures, but one thing is puzzling me how have you got 47 707 Holyrood as she is now on the West of England line in NSE livery

Here is the proof..........

Seriously though great work B)

Look forward to more updates,

Thanks Mark. I think you might just have a point there about the 47/7s looking more glossy because they were wet most of the time!!

Looking forward to seeing you at MRS.

Great pics Darren and some very nice detailing and weathering work. No self-respecting NSE loco can call itself "Holyrood" though, can it? It was a sad day when the 47/7s went south, to be replaced by 158s too. Maybe you should try weathering a ScotRail-liveried version into the condition they were in before they were repainted? Some of them got into a real state. That would be a a fun challenge.

Hi folks,

Just thought I'd post a few pics while I'm here. I managed to get my space-time displacement machine working again last night. I set it to Waverley 1986...

I raced down the platform to catch a glimpse over some BRUTES of 47461 waiting at the heading of a down TPO...

post-7247-0-72315100-1296036389_thumb.jpg

Fortunately it didn't leave straight away so I was able to get a couple of slightly better shots...

post-7247-0-27231300-1296036546_thumb.jpg

post-7247-0-95582000-1296036828_thumb.jpg

I then wandered over to platform 12 where I got a view back across to the TPO...

post-7247-0-97903200-1296036593_thumb.jpg

107447 was waiting at the platform to leave for Glasgow via Shotts...

post-7247-0-75216900-1296037120_thumb.jpg

47461 eventually left as the sun was rising on a cloudy day in Edinburgh...

post-7247-0-25242200-1296037010_thumb.jpg

...and the light played on the weatherbeaten side of 27105...

Oh well, back to reality now. Work calls. :(

Cheers for now,

Dave

  • 2 weeks later...

Great pics Dave. Look forward to seeing your Coal 26 when it has come out of the WW works.;)

I was looking at my Heljan Railfreight 26 the other day, just tidying it up and deciding whether to keep it as 025. I saw a pic of 026 in a colour album (might have been the Andrew Vines pictorial) with a 'yellow stag' sticker on the side and thought it looked great against the grey sides and yellow cabs. We'll see. The red stripe has been painted on mine now but will need weathering to tone it down as I used gloss instead of matt!

My Large Logo 47 number-quandry has gone back to where it all started a year or so ago - 47644 'The Permanent Way Institution'. It was named in Perth on 8 June 1986, which happens to be my birthday! Have you thought about doing that one?

Cheers

Alex

Hi all,

I found this thread as the name (Waverley West) was dropped in another thread. Thank goodness I took the time to find it. Absolutely fantastic! So much in such a relatively small space (considering what’s been fitted in).

Now if you could get you to design me a layout in a third of that space………:D :D  ………only kidding I have a track plan for my we square of railway heaven. Although it's always subject to change, at least until saw meets wood.;)

Any way other than congratulating a spectacular layout,:good_mini: I wanted to ask, Can be so bold (being a new member on the forum). Would some one please forward a copy of the article to me? :blush_mini::blush:  I’ve not yet tracked a copy on line yet. Just call me impatient to see it.:scratch_one-s_head_mini:

If you PM me, I’ll bounce my email address back to you.

I am more than happy to pay for a copy once found, I’ll even buy some ones copy (not that you would part with it, I wouldn’t)!

Anyway,

Many thanks if you can help.

Best regards,

Mark

Hi,great modelling found some photos that may be of interest. The deltic and forty were taken at Heymarket in 1977 on my first trip north. The station had huge flags hanging everywhere. Have some pics somewhere. The other two are undated early mid 80's {?}. Lost my notebooks over the years. Have more if you're interested. Ps will you be adding the father and child above the 26 to your model?

Thanks Alex. That's a good suggestion re. 47644 (and also re. 26026!). I've just had a look on Shawplan's website though and they don't seem to do the plates for it. Any ideas as to whether anyone else does them?

If you PM me, I’ll bounce my email address back to you.

Many thanks if you can help.

Will send you a copy as soon as I can get round to scanning it, Mark. Thanks again for your kind words.

Grunfos - WOW, brilliant photos. Thanks! I especially like the 26 on the Mk 3 sleepers. I presume that was an empty stock move? Any other photos like it would be very gratefully received. The father and child might well be a nice touch (anyone you know by any chance?). I've just finished doing "me" and I am now sitting on a trolley at the end of Platform 13/14 watching proceedings!

Hi folks,

Not much to report really as I've been away for the past week or so on holiday. I am now back working away on detailing 47701 and the Coal Sector 26. After that, I've decided to start on another of my faithful Heljans, this time to be renumbered as Large Logo 47711. 47640 is also to be detailed further (buffer beam detailing mainly in this case - a new policy on Waverley West) and renumbered (as either 47640 or 644 - see above).

I've also decided to start the station detailing process along the section of wall between the tunnel mouths and the little hut. I thought breaking the station down into small areas might make the whole process a bit less daunting. There's plenty of detail to add where there's nothing at the moment, so watch this space!

Hope to be back soon with more and thanks again for all your feedback and input. It's much appreciated.

Cheers for now,

Dave

Hi Dave , more great pictures , the night ones with the orangey lights reminded me of a few shots I took in the 80s .. keep up the good work mate..cheers YVM.

Tee hee, thanks YVM. Brilliant. Nice shot of a 1980s-style high-viz vest there too. I need to repaint a few more of my figures like that. I have some staff wandering around WW with some very modern looking clothing.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave, slight correction, have checked file at home whilst looking for more pics for you [have 6 to put on tomorrow for you] the deltic is 009 and 40 is as yet unidentified, think it is 113, date is march '79 not '77. The 26 is 031. Still looking for 27 number. Will post more tomorrow as I have to photograph photographs [!] as I dont have a scanner. Must get one as I have about 700 pics from '77 to '90 from all around the country that need sorting. Have just found pics of large logo 711 and 640 for you as well.

Thanks Derek! :D I knew DMUs in Scotland were a bit of a hot-potch in the 80s but that's one combination I've not seen before!

Dave as promised. HST and flags,47644,47711,47715,47604, 37117 and 55018 [march 1979]. Have lots of 20, 25, 26, 27,37,40 and 47's around Scotland if you want to see some more.

Thanks a million Grunfos and yes please, I'd definitely like to see your photos of locos around Scotland. Not sure if you've seen this thread, but if not you should!

Might be best to post them there, but feel free to post the Waverley ones here too! :D
