Deep Water Yards

Thanks chaps.

I have put a few videos on my weathering thread recently, worth a watch.

Have plans for some more.

The layout has taken second place compared to the stock weathering for a while... Maybe that needs to change ?

Well, here you go "the smudge" - Deep Water Yard in all its shameful opulence and madness:

Measures about 6m by 4m

It really needs 2 operators to have a nice session - one driving, one operating points etc(all manual)

My 7 year old is now adept at using the ECoS so we do have some good shunting sessions.

With an iPhone it's a laugh controlling stuff also.

Endless fun shunting about whilst trains go round.

The best sessions ? Digging out locos from the back of the depot without the hand of God intervening.

ALOT of work to do to make it half satisfying for me - scenery, more electrics etc.

If I could start again....I'd do it differently - but that's another story !

Regards

Nick

Here's a nice vid for you of a 67 on dragging duty with a 350.

I was lucky enough to get hold of 350 power car, I've made that a dummy [looks like i need to chip it so I can control the lights].

KFAs need the weight boxes adding on and a good weathering.

The VGAs are the pre weathered versions but I've given them some extra and I've added brake disc inserts [well worth it]. They need finishing off. The rear one has a flashing tail light fitted.

And again at a different angle:

Hopefully will get some modelling time tomorrow....

Had some special arrivals today... Need detailing and a bit of weathering...

Hi Swifty

I'd better not say where they were from - but not Cairns on this occasion, although I have checked his recent production and 005 / 006 are on there !

I have the old style 005 / 006 - plan is to take sound chip out and install in one, make a dummy from one and likely flog the remaining one as they seem to be selling well.

026 was me being a bit impatient with the Hornby model due (about June / July I think).

029 as DB me again being a bit greedy. Have the DVT too.

Maybe some vids on the royal train / management train soon !

Swifty:

66709 is I'm afraid to say from that popular auction site.

I'm now happy to "have a go" on wagons, but locos are not yet on the horizon.

David:

It's been fun coming up with the formations for the videos. Real railways tend to be a bit more mundane don't they!

Have removed "tunnel" today and my little man Roo (7) has painted the inside black. We hope to be able to run the SGT with lighted wagon and get a video soon. At the same time I've soldered, pinned down and banked the curves through the tunnel in the ongoing bid to improve running.

And that was the weekend finished...

Regards & Happy modelling,

Nick

Class 66 - thanks, I had fun doing the Autoballasters. It was a bit nerve wracking striking up the network rail blue paint and transfers.

Chuffed at the way they turned out. Have another set of 10 to do - this time loaded ?

Alex - thanks. Will try to keep rmweb posted. Layout progress very slow... The vids are sort of fun coming up with "specials"

What next.... I feel an Arriva 67 & DVT on a training run or maybe the Kernow JIAs need to have a run (another really satisfying weathering project)

  • 6 months later...

Got 3 - 1 never left box.

The others were dummies, but I motored one and tend to run them together.

I'd love one! I presume you intend on eventually selling the one thats never left the box eventually.... And I'd love it! But it'd be costly so not for a while lol..

  • 1 month later...

It's a bit like that......

Heavens above.... I even sold some stuff recently !

Roll on some of Hornby and Bachmanns pending releases.

Partic looking forward to the WAG mk3s, FGW sleepers, rehashed 158 etc.

New wagons look a bit sparse... Have the poly bulks to weather (started on the wheels) and I am looking forward to seeing if Wild Boar does the gypsum containers - have some GBRF FEAs ready for them...

Seasons greetings...

Hi

I can update you with the following which haven't been posted in the scenery thread.

Cannot get the orientation right here....

Fence posts since painted grey (concrete). Yet to run the wires.

The temporary network rail yard in the distance is due to pending works in the vicinity.

Closer look at the developing network rail site:

Lastly, a look the other way. Yet to bed the hedge down. The field needs some work - was trying for the ploughed look.

post-1261-0-38627400-1387997720_thumb.jpg

Next ? Aiming to do the bank opposite, but making it very quarry like. Have glued 4 pieces of kingspan together that need sculpting....

Merry Christmas..

Nick
