Rugd1022
Thirty years ago today at Leamington Spa, 4/12/82, a typical cross country working in the form of an ETH fitted 47 502 and a full rake of air-con stock... This view of the station hasn't changed much aside from a lick of paint and the signal box being demolished, but the old Ford Foundry in the distance is sadly no more. Rugd1022
SIX coaches in shot, probably more out of shot........now replaced by what? Four? And they call it progress. Average XC workings in those (far off!) days were load nine / ten, with the odd one or two made up to twelve, usually with a Mk1 buffet in the mix to boot. An abiding memory of the day was how bl**dy cold and gloomy it was!

johnw1
On this Day in History – Toton – 6th December 1970 On this day forty years ago it was out with the push bike for a sixteen mile round trip to Toton for a “bunk” round the shed. This is what was there that day: Class 08 (3021/29/34/58, 3249, 3345/62/63, 3400/02, 3514, 3852, 3996), class 20 (8009/13/42/43/44/47/66/70/71/74/77, 8125/35/36/42/43/57/58/60/62/63/66/67/68/72/73/75/78/83/84/86/87/95), class 25 (5171, 5232/42/45/50/51/52, 7508/15/25/36/56/61, 7605/20/51), class 44 (2/4/5/7/8/10), class 45 (20/46/55/72/85, 103/04/08/18/23/31/35), class 46 (140/47/52/58/62/81), class 47 (1513, 1629/85/94/95, 1802/04/29/46/49, 1964). A total of ninety seven locomotives present. Of note are 1513, one of the original batch of twenty class 47’s which did not often stray from the ECML, the ill fated 7605 which would be destroyed two years later just “down the road” at Lenton South Junction. In this collection are a number of images of locomotives seen that day later in there careers. RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted December 12, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 12, 2012 Perhaps we should all take a moment to reflect. 24 years ago today 35 people were on their way to work in London they only got as far as Clapham, they never went home. 35 died and over five hundred others were injured in one of Britian's worst rail crashes in recent years.
