hoovered
Just wondering, how easy / difficult is it to re-number a weathered 50 [ 50002 Superb ] Anyone done it ?. I want to do 30030 Repulse.
RMweb Gold BR Blue Posted May 31, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 31, 2011 I have done this. The numbers come off easily enough but the weathering in the area will come off too. The weathering on this loco is not the greatest but the hardest part of the process is to re-weather the affected area and blend it in.
chris bales
Hello my friend. I used T Cut on a cotton bud go careful dont press to hard you can remove a lot of the weathering this way to so you can blend it in. I done a couple Fearless and old oak since sold them on. D400
Be aware though! If you base model is 50002 then strictly speaking you can't renumber it to 50030. 50002 is in revised "dark" NSE blue, whereas 50030 was withdrawn in lighter shade and never carried this livery. Indeed Repulse was a bit of an odd ball as at some point the No.1 end cab was patch repainted in NSE dark blue - which was noticeably different to the rest of the loco! Dark NSE blue was carried by: 50002 50005 50009 50017 50023 (No white around cabs) 50024 (though only for a matter of months!) 50027 (final few months) 50029 50033 (No white around cabs) 50035 (No white around cabs) 50037 50043 50045 50048 Hope that helps, Bruce

And for good measure Repulse, can not find pic of no 5 but got it somwhere. What is with this no white buisiness no RNSE 50 had white windows

What is with this no white buisiness no RNSE 50 had white windows I think he means the white band above the cab windscreen, some locos didn't have the cantrail white band extending all the way around the loco. Someone else maybe able to correct this but it did seem to be Old Oak repaints that didn't have the windscreen band.

Correct - that is what I'm referring to something the photos of 34 and 35 shows quite clearly. However - I'm pretty sure 034 is not painted dark NSE but the original shade - as far as I know none of the Dark NSE locos had double arrows - either the WoE crest or nothing at all. 016 I'll grant you though Bruce
RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted June 5, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 5, 2011 Correct - that is what I'm referring to something the photos of 34 and 35 shows quite clearly. One exception seems to be the infamous 'Glourious' that had double arrows applied for a short while on the left of the nameplates prefixing Network SouthEast. 50034 in revised light blue is now on my to do list, the livery is far easier to apply without the white around the top of the cab windows!!! Bruce, 50034 went from Original NSE to dark NSE in October 1989, so it never carried the intermediate light NSE.
