Hi Ray,

The engine shed looks a treat, it fits in beautifully onto the layout.

It's amazing what you can do with a run of the mill kit when you put in a bit of time & attention.

The end result is a tribute to your modelling skills, well done mate.

I'm looking forward to seeing the bridge take shape over the next few weeks.

All the best

Rob

Hi Rob

Thanks for your interest Rob but one problem the engine shed is a goods shed. I've made a started on the bridge pillers.

Hi Ray,

Sorry mate, I think that age or late nights are beginning to finally catch up with me.

I think I need your steadying influence at the club nights to bring me back to normal !

Anyway, the goods shed looks a treat etc etc

Right, I'm off for a lay down in a darkened room!

Good luck with the pillars, I sure that they'll look excellent

All the best

Rob

update

I have been busy with the bridge and the embankments.

The bridge pillers was made of 3mm plywood with wills stone plastic card glued outside and painted with gray wash then wiped of to leaving the gray in the cracks, then dry brushed with brown and blue. The girders was wills vari girder made to the size's and painted with dark gray then dry brushed with brown and before that drys dip the brush in thinners wipe access off on a tissue then brush girder to make brown strecks. I glued these into place, the road was made of 1mm ply and glued to place, then made up the wall on the road side and glue to place. I have got to make the copping stones to go on top of the pillers.

The embankment was made of foam insulation board, I got from Wicks the size 4ftx2ftx2ins take of the foil on both sides (use this on the back radiators) and cut to size with a hack saw blade and use a hot melt glue to fix down, then cut to a rough shape and finish of with sand paper and a vacume cleaner to keep dust to a limit. when satisfied with shape mix up same poly filler and spred over the top and before that goes of put mod roc or jay cloth on top with another layer of poly filler on top of that, when dry paint with brown emulsion.

The coal pens was made of C&L Ply sleepers that I had left from the track, socked in oak wood dye and cut to length and used PVA glue to put together with a support at the back.

Morning Ray,

You have made really good progress with the girder bridge & roadway, it's all coming together nicely.

If you are interested, I've just cleared out our wood burner & saved Richard a pot of wood ash, for making his road surfaces.

If it's of any help, I can bring you a pot when we meet up at tonight's club meeting.

The only thing to remember, is that it isn't sifted, so there may be an occasional nail or two!

I've got my syringe & a few old brushes ready to do battle with the ballasting on Tawbridge.

It'll be a mammoth task, but with plenty of us busy on the sections, we should make reasonable progress.

Anyway mate, I'll see you tonight, & keep up the good work, it's a credit to you.

Cheers,

Rob

I've been round to Ray's today for a look at Yard Shunter and have taken a few photos.

Progress is really coming on. Looking forward to seeing how the scenery looks when you have finished with the Grassmaster - left for home after a small section had been given the first coating.

The servo operated point motors do work very well.

Keep up the good work.

Looking good. Looking even more gooder after I had a go in Photoshop to correct the colour. Man, is that green bright! If you add some autumn tints or spray it lightly with dirt colour it will create a whole new vista altogether. Have to say, the grassmaster grenade creates a good looking crop of green with very little effort.

Really enjoying this thread, but in my opinion you definitely need some variation in that grass colour. Perhaps some areas where it isn't so lush, I'm thinking some brownish patchy areas where the sun has scorched grass. In future you might want to include some more of the scorched grass colour in your mix.

I know it might sound drastic, but hacking it with scissors then giving it a light blast with the airbrush with a light dirty colour might help just to pick out the tips of the grass where it is slightly dying back.

Hi artizen

Thanks for your input artizen. I do see what you mean I have just ordered some autumn and winter fibres from international models

Hi Imnp

I'm glade you are enjoying this thread. I don't think I will go down that route with the scissors, I have ordered some autumn and winter fibres to put on with the grass master.

I have put a covering of autumn grass on and put some puddles in on the road done with PVA glue when dry it goes clear.

The fence posts is match sticks dyed with colaron jacobean oak, got them from a craft shop £2.50 for 2,000
