Xerces Fobe2
I will put you all out of your misery it is just south of Bushey & Oxhey however I edited the OHLE out ! Xerces Fobe2
Had a play today with trying to make full width banner as you will see with not ideal results. Has anyone got a good side view picture of a Class 501, Cravens DMU Oerlikon etc that we could use. I have used photo -stitching but given the height constraints distortion is a major issue. Xerces Fobe2
I have changed the banner again I think it mow looks a lot better. Thanks again to John Deadman for the original photo this image was cut from Nigel
trisonic
Nigel, I'm getting a very thin strip and the dreaded "Blue Question Mark" with Mac/Safari. So, it may just be me......... Best, Pete.

Best, Pete. Hi Pete, No problems with Mozilla FireFox with IE9 displays OK, however with an ominous X box in top LH corner This what you should see repeated once in the banner Yet another manisfestation of the gremlins that a lot of us are currently experiencing on RMweb Thanks, Nigel. trisonic
Nice photo, Nigel. No I'm not seeing the train at all just a very thin strip of the top of the photo - not only that but it is two images that are identical but "book matched mirror images". Very strange. Best, Pete. Hi Pete, Due to the unacceptable distortion when stitching and stretching the photos I went for repeat of the image which is loaded as a banner background rather than a true banner. This function is currently a little limited however I will tweak and play again to see what I can do. I am really after a full side view of a NLL DMU/EMU which would make life easier, Best Regards, Nigel.
eastwestdivide
Nigel, I'm getting a very thin strip and the dreaded "Blue Question Mark" with Mac/Safari. So, it may just be me......... Best, Pete. Not just you - blue question mark about 10-20 pixels high, and a long horizontal strip off the photo stretching the rest of the width and the same height. screenshot attached. trisonic
Yep, that above is exactly what I see! You can see where it starts repeating itself.......... Best, Pete.
eastwestdivide
Delving into the source code, the actual JPG for the header (or is this a background?) seems to be fine, at #group_header{ background: url("http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/uploads/groups/31-bg-1308930088.jpg") repeat-x; } i.e. if you put the URL into a new window, it's a whole picture. while further down, this bit has a different JPG: div id="group_header"> <a href="http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/groups/show/31-north-west-london-dc-gob-lines/"><img src="http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/uploads/groups/31-banner-1308846987.jpg" /></a> </div> and if you put that URL into a browser you get an error message: Not Found The requested URL /community/uploads/groups/31-banner-1308846987.jpg was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. That's about as far as my web skills go, unfortunately... However, comparing to another group I'm also a member of (Woodhead), that group doesn't have a JPG in the #group_header section. and the banner works nicely. Thanks for this advice - I think I may have caused the problem by pushing the size of the banner background to the limit! Any idea of the size etc which will not cause issues and will produce a full width banner?. Best Regards, Nigel.
eastwestdivide
Thanks for this advice - I think I may have caused the problem by pushing the size of the banner background to the limit! Any idea of the size etc which will not cause issues and will produce a full width banner?. Best Regards, Nigel. Hmm, I'd have though same width as the white-on-blue header "North & West London DC & GOB Lines" just above it? i.e. about 1215 pixels on my screen. But shouldn't things resize to different people's screens anyway? Trisonic and I are seeing most of the first repeat in the banner. If I shrink my window to insanely small, the white-on-blue header shrinks nicely, with a rounded corner each side, and the photo still displays as far as the white-on-blue: If I stretch my window across my two monitors, to insanely wide, the problem's still there, with a 20px slice of the top of the photo, which now repeats three times or more. Earlier, I was trying to suggest that there's an apparently dead reference to a JPG in this group, which isn't there in the Woodhead group (which does work). What happens if you remove the reference to the 1st jpg, and leave it to the 2nd (or is it vice versa?), the same way as the banner works in the Woodhead group. Sanity warning: I'm not a web designer, and I'm only comparing the human-readable bits of code in View Source. I might well be "Barking" up the wrong tree - don't take it as Gospel (Oak). Good luck! eastwestdivide
Can't see the new banner either, Nigel! It's even thinner and compressed than the last one Ditto, although the group home page at http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/groups/show/31-north-west-london-dc-gob-lines/ does display it full depth, but still with a missing picture icon top left. At the top of this thread, it's like it was before - a missing picture icon with a strip the same depth as the icon
Xerces Fobe2
The problem is that i need a long picture for which I either own the copyright or have permission to use. I have I have been stretching photos using Photo shop - I will try stitching some photos together to get the length and hopefully this will resolve this issue Thanks for the feedback guys, Nigel. Xerces Fobe2
OK I think I have cracked it - In the absence of a full side photo of a Class 501 I took a full side photo of a Class 501 on my Croxley WRD layout this afternoon and edited it. We now have a full width banner that is not massively distorted Nigel.
