James
Andrew, this might interest you - http://eastmoor.blogspot.com/2010/10/scuttled.html It's a withdrawn Warship loco I did last year - it's not quite in scrapyard condition but is modelled from photos of it when it was dumped at Old Oak Common. Etched Pixels
Do you mean how much rust would be on a train in a scrap yard? It depends how long it had been there. Try searching for some images of the class you want on google, you can aid realism by removing some of the windows, cutting panels out etc Richard Well worth looking at photos because a lot of what they get is very very faded flaky paint rather than visible rust. Even some of the stuff that spent nearly thirty years in Barry right by the sea was mostly heavily faded paint and dirt rather than rust. Would agree with the class advice very strongly, especially as some locos were partly aluminium
James
You can do fading by brushing thin washes over livery colours but it takes a long time. In this case you'd be better off repainting items in muted/faded versions of the original colours and weathering on top of them. There's a bit about fading paint on my site - http://eastmoor.blogspot.com/2009/07/fading-fast.html A lot of careful observation is needed but the results could very very nice!
