RMweb Premium Popular Post DLT Posted September 12, 2011 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 12, 2011 (edited) My Charmouth layout has been around for a very long time, but for some reason I've never posted any photos of it on RMweb. Time to put that right, these photos were taken several years ago, but the layout is still much the same. Firstly the station, and the station throat and loco shed area. westerner
Wonderful! I do like the weathering on the building next to the level crossing and the engine shed. Edited September 12, 2011 by westerner
darren01
HI DLT You have been hiding this one away to long, just love it; I do like the feel of openness to it It is a lot different to brideport town, but still has a grate charm to it, I just love the way you tone all the buildings in with the surroundings and the detail is spot on, I do like run rounds in stations like this , just like the L+B layout . Well done on a grate piece of modeling! , Can not wait to see this one in the flesh and have a play. All the best Darren

definate maybe
One of the real greats - I cant believe you havent added it before. I have loved this line ever since the articles in RM, which must be 20 years back. Great to see more of it. I normally dismiss narrow gauge layouts as the held no interest for me but this one broke that viewpoint easily. Does the 'goldplated' loco still exist? RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted September 13, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 13, 2011 You've certainly put the Charm into Charmouth! This is delicious. Pardon my higgerance - I'm probably the only one who doesn't know! - but scale and gauge?
RMweb Premium Mike Bellamy Posted September 13, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 13, 2011 You need a nice big shed so you can fill in the gaps between the two layouts I'm sure I have seen them both together - was it at 7mmNGA Burton?? RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted September 13, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 13, 2011 Ian, Daves wonderful slices of reality are in 7mm O16.5 though it's hard to believe from the detail. I'm sure I have seen them both together - was it at 7mmNGA Burton?? Just being greedy Mike, I'd like to see the stations in-between too! ( the ones he hasn't built yet ). The MVR is so plausible I'd like to see the whole railway , even if Dave has to move out to make room for the layout rather than himself.

All the best Darren Hi Darren, Thanks very much, Bridport and Charmouth deliberately show the contrast between the town and country ends of a railway, one squeezed between the buildings, the other open and spread out. My main inspiration for this was the Welshpool & Llanfair. It will need a little maintenace and TLC before it goes out next year, some of the pointwork switching is getting a little ropey, but the track was laid in 1984! All the best, Dave.

Hi Paul, I would definitely like to do another Marshwood Vale layout, an intermediate station is a very viable option, possibly built into a continuous run. Gawd know when though! In addition theres a lovely old watermill just north of Bridport that really needs its own siding connection. Theres lots on paper..... Cheers, Dave. Hi There, Thank you very much for the comments. Yes indeed, the "goldplated" loco still exists, and no it hasnt been painted! It doesnt come out much now though, as theres enough painted locos to run the service. The Railway Modeller series on Charmouth was from 1995 to 2001, so not quite 20 years ago. More recently its featured in the specialist magazines, particularly Narrow Gauge & Industrial Review. Did you see the layout at a show? It was exhibited widely from about 1985 to 1998. Its only been out once since then. All the best, Dave.
RMweb Gold Donw Posted September 13, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 13, 2011 Nice to see the pictures Dave. I miss seeing your odd bits and pieces at Exeter. I understand the group no longer has the building I believe. I do think the contrast between Charmouth and Bridport is nicely done. Don
RMweb Gold mudmagnet Posted September 13, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 13, 2011 Well Dave - about time you posted some photos here! I'm looking forward to operating again next year and Darren will certainly enjoy himself! I would expect quite a crowd around Charmouth!

RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted September 14, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 14, 2011 Never enough , do you have any scribblings of the other ideas for the line you'd be prepared to show?
RMweb Premium DLT Posted September 14, 2011 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 14, 2011 Never enough , do you have any scribblings of the other ideas for the line you'd be prepared to show? Nothing thats suitable for uploading, its all very rough sketches, crossed out, rubbed out, gone over again etc. Locations such as Cyfronydd on the W&L, Wenhaston on the Southwold and Uffculme on the Culm Valley may be incorporated somehow. I know the last ones standard gauge, but it really should haver been narrow. I'm tempted to pinch a few ideas from Steve Howe's amazing history and plans for the Helford Valley Railway as well. So plenty of food for thought. Cheers, Dave.

RMweb Premium Popular Post DLT Posted September 14, 2011 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 14, 2011 (edited) Ok, so if you're not fed-up yet, here's a few more. This time of the area around the level-crossing and the General Store. Dave.. PS Please dont look too closely at my dodgy Photoshop attempts to blank out the background. RMweb Gold Donw Posted September 14, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 14, 2011 How could we get fed up with modelling of this quality. Those pictures with the gated crossings look very W&L. Don

Wheeltapper
Some of the shots taken around the level crossing have to be the most realistic bit of scenery I have seen for many a year . Outstanding Work - more photos please.

I've forgotten some of the details - it has been a long time since I've seen Charmouth.
