'CHARD
I threatened to inaugurate a thread dedicated to the TMDs that supplied power for Waverley Route services, and here she is. In no particular order I reckon we'll be featuring 64A, 64B and their subsheds, 12A and 12C pretty prominently, 64G, Hardengreen and Riccarton, and dare I say Currock and Craigentinny, which are neatly conjoined in this incredible shot at the latter (albeit it's an ER DLW): http://www.departmen...om/photo/975013 I'm keen to spotlight signature traction at home depots, so expect 60A HBS and BRCW from May '68 and Holbeck Peaks.... 'CHARD
Not deliberately bouncing this thread, but just to nail the colours to the mast, here's a placeholder post of 12C in case we attract any novices with a depot-centric sixties bent, then they can get a flavour. St Peg's V2 60900 at 64A's sister-ship: http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete2.php?id=28757 J39 64877 http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete2.php?id=24126 Oops, I forgot this was also 12B in a previous life. Anyway, here's the entry from Rail UK Steam Loco Sheds, including the directions for bunking reaching the place: http://www.railuk.info/steam/getshed.php?id=63 Here are new somewhat depressing photos, from that site: http://www.railuk.info/gallery/getimage.php?id=2164 http://www.railuk.info/gallery/getimage.php?id=2167

Guest tony graham
At least the City council have kindly reminded us of what used to be here, Carlisle Canal.
'CHARD
Hopefully, this interesting overlay will survive translation. http://www.railuk.in...els&zoomlevel=3 How cruelly will the railway be allowed back through Gala, squeezed into a barely wide enough strip behind a retail park. It's amazing how much real estate the Property Board had to play with here. To tie-in with Tony's post above, when you've opened this link, use the search feature to type in: Carlisle Canal (note Eden Viaduct top right) Hardengreen (now a close of wee houses) Hawick (Teviotdale leisure complex, note how car park which is former main line and station site would be relatively easy to reinstate) Riccarton (surely the remotest disused shed site in the UK) This pushes all my Geography student buttons, incredible resource when you know how these places looked in the sixties. RMweb Premium Bernard Lamb Posted October 26, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 26, 2011 Can any one translate the departmental number on the DMU in post 1 into a running number? Just interested having been reading up on these creatures recently and with the Bachmann one due shortly. Bernard

37175
Can any one translate the departmental number on the DMU in post 1 into a running number? I didn't realise that Wicki covered the departmentl use. (slaps himself for being lazy). That makes it an Eastern Region unit. I had hopes it might have been one that actually was associated with the Waverley. Bernard
'CHARD
Ahhh, I did include that disclaimer in my initial post lads. I too was hoping it may have been a Cumbrian lightweight, but I didn't want to raise false expectations
37175
Whilst on with DMUs, does anyone know if this particular unit would have worked on the WR/Peebles loop? http://preserved.railcar.co.uk/56317.html
'CHARD
From the batch Sc56300-19. Ouch! I can't say 'No' for definite, but it wasn't allocated to Leith Central as its fellows were. WR performers from that batch are: Sc56301/11/2/4-6/8/9. So the panel's verdict: unlikely.
37175
Thanks for that, 'Chard .... phew! .... probably just as well as the missus would have killed me. Neat strikethrough of 56317 from the next personal scrapheap challenge list.

Neat strikethrough of 56317 from the next personal scrapheap challenge list. Mine would also kill me, every time I bring a model home I have to smuggle it into the house. And I have told her that if I could afford a real Duff or Gronk then I would have one. You can head a balloon drop on the other side of the workd when I mention that! RMweb Premium Bernard Lamb Posted October 28, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 28, 2011 And I have told her that if I could afford a real Duff or Gronk then I would have one. Wandering a bit, but the shot of the "Mess Van" earlier in this thread reminded me. Back in 1969 when they were being withdrawn you could have bought one for £1000. bernard

devonseasider
Don't know whether or not this was ever used on the Waverley Route, but it was sitting outside St.Margaret's on September 10th 1966. Graham
'CHARD
Great shot, and she was certainly used on the Route, being a Haymarket machine at this time. Note on the right, one of D5300-06 has already received air brakes and would no longer be seen on the Route any further south than Millerhill. The loss of these 7 stalwarts from regular passenger work stepped-up Derby Sulzers like the one above to two years' increased use on 2M52 and 2S52, until the influx in May '68 of machines from 60A...
