Supaned
OT , I was always very Anti canned beer , but quite a few US breweries are now available in cans - if nothing else because it's easier to store and transport (and a good deal cheaper than glass bottles). Brewdog bars stock some cans from Oskar Blues as well as bottles from various US micros , but be sure to have deep pockets...

We are used to paying USA import craft brew prices in the Rake, the Euston Tap and other great bars. Despite the prices its still cheaper than flying to the USA for a pint and way cheaper than a beer in Norway or Sweden!! AndrewC
Very deep pockets. Although if you are a Equity for Punks investor and if you order to take away you can save quite a bit. A normal Brewdog session in Camden sets us back around £75 plus another £30 or so in takeaway. I'll probably subscribe to the next share offer just to save the 10% in the bar. It would pay for itself in a couple of months. As Ian said there are lots of really good places that are tuned into emptying your pockets for a decent import beer. My current project has me in Victoria, a 10 min walk to Cask Kitchen. Very dangerous. Had an Imperial Biscotti Break Natale from Evil Twin there last week. 11.5% and £6.50 for a half pint. Still about 1/3 cheaper than in Denmark where its brewed. Back on topic time. RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted March 18, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 18, 2014 Cask is a great bar. They even had Konrad dark on draft last year - first time I have seen it outside the Czech Republic. Back on topic, I do need to get back to Florida for a bit of research (not just for beer) as my last trip there was back in 1998!! Ian
trisonic
I'll have to bone up on these Pubs for when I get back. Hang on, the beers are much cheaper over here......what I really want are some pints of Greene King IPA or Adnams (Nectar of the Gods). Best, Pete. AndrewC
Greene Thing? WTF. Please refer to the ER's subject around sheep wee as a diesel additive. Hmm, Ian why is it our discussions always descend into beer? Perhaps its time to get Mr York to start a beer drinker's topic in Wheeltappers. (fizzy chemical laden mass produced fairy wizz drinkers need not apply)
Supaned
Can we have a US beer topic? (Anheuser Busch , Miller and Inbev excluded).
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted March 18, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 18, 2014 (edited) Beer and railways go together (as long as you are not working on the real ways at the time) so naturally especially apres show. Will be doing so this Saturday evening after Ally Pally Even at the bus stop in the morning we discuss beer and railways with a Network Rail employee PS - it would have to have a new category - beertappers rather than wheeltappers!! AndrewC
Ian, where are you beering on Saturday? I may be able to get a day pass if you are staying inside the M25.
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted March 18, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 18, 2014 Not sure yet as will need to see where Long Island Jack and company would like to go but it could well be Craft, Euston Tap etc. talking of which, I might just have to add a brew pub no the widened boards, served by rail of course!! https://www.facebook.com/FMBrew/info http://www.smokinoyster.com/
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted March 18, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 18, 2014 And a bit more on topic, here is the real Fort Myers station. If I had known it still existed when I started building the layout then I would have built this rather than base it on Orlando. https://www.google.com/maps/@26.640097,-81.86533,3a,53.2y,258.45h,89.98t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1src_P0vfOzmLFv0c4t7VpMg!2e0 There was a second station - nice to see it refurbished as it was in a run down state when I was last there. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Boca+Grande+Railroad+Depot/@26.654843,-81.852686,3a,75y,25.76h,96.84t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1ste_lfnqPMQoIEmtQifPPuQ!2e0!4m2!3m1!1s0x88db41b8b02cc9ed:0xd0473819844f5272 Here is one of the places still with tracks - Newspress so I presume that they still get paper delivered here as they did back in the 1990's https://www.google.com/maps/@26.639858,-81.862344,3a,75y,259.6h,86.15t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sxlfZRci8LG1CzHVNBY2vqA!2e0

Adrian Wintle
Andy Thanks for that link. Some good possibilities on that web site. Will have a measure up tonight. Regards Ian The N-scale one makes up to quite a nice bridge. RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted March 18, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 18, 2014 (edited) Despite having to go see my father tonight, I managed to do a little bit of work on the layout. The alligators have lost their home for now whilst the new bank takes shape but they will get a bigger area to play in once all is done. The gap for the bridge is only 9 inches so I may have to scratch build a fixed bridge . Glorious NSE
Think you need to have a word with CK about that gap, it's about the size of the one at Dawlish.
trisonic
Green King IPA?? There's much better than that these days!! Maybe, I grew up on it and I don't like my beer to be too strong - and nothing beats Adnams for me. I hate Belgium beer too, I'm afraid...don't get me started on beer with Wheat in it. "Blue Moon" is an abomination, how to market cloudy beer. Cheers, Pete.
Adrian Wintle
A pair of these 30' Micro Engineering deck girder bridges: https://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/255-75502 would span 8.25 inches, or combine with:https://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/255-75501 Possibly build it with a swing span like the Paulsboro bridge (although not with the freight cars scattered into the river) http://www.gordon-elias.com/blog/5142/conrail-freight-train-derails-after-bridge-collapses-in-paulsboro-new-jersey/ Or the BLMA concrete bridge: http://www.blmamodels.com/cgi-bin/webstore/shop.cgi?ud=AwEABgoLAw0CBxQUEBEcHAIFAgYJCQ0ECQkTEQAA&t=main.blue.htm&storeid=1&cols=1&categories=01001-00011&&c=detail.blue.htm&t=main.blue.htm&itemid=4390 Adrian Edited March 19, 2014 by Adrian Wintle
