cairnsroadworks
Well here you go, the almost completed 57604. I'm quite pleased with the way its turned out! I've used Precision Labels transfers for this and Fox lining. In retrospect the lining may have benefitted from a slight trim, maybe the next one! Whilst I'm here, a few other projects I am working on. Again none of these are quite complete as yet. First up is 37153, as it was operating out of Inverness in the late 1980s: Next up a pair of 20s, 20092 & 20169 in Central Services livery: 20901 & 20905 - these need a little more weathering to complete them: Then I have done 37109 in preserved condition. Not entirely happy with the dominos on this one, if anyone has a better solution I'd be pleased to hear it! Finally, the Europhoenix Class 86, 86247. I'm pleased with how this has turned out! Comments welcome! Cheers, Andi.
harkins77
Very nice work there Andi. I'm alway astounded on how nice your stuff comes out of the workshop. I was a bit worried about the 57 when I saw it as I expect it to spit a piston out the side like 60081 did in that livery lol. I especially love the 20's and the 86 is just fantastic as well. Keep up the good work. Kain
MRDBLUE17
Hi Andi, I had missed your comment there the other day about some DRS 37's but just caught up now! You have certainly been busy I like all the 20's you have done and whilst I might not like the colours the 86's appear in before going away your model looks stunning! I havn't forgotten about your track plan - it is drawn on a roll of wall paper virtually at full size as I did with Rannoch to make sure it looks right and fits just need to get it drawn smaller so I can send it to you! Keep up the good work! Mark
cairnsroadworks
Cheers for the comments! Mark - good news about the layout plan, can't wait to see it. 37229 and 37261 are in the paintshop, but I'm away on holiday for a fortnight at the weekend and my airbrush is going away for a service so there won't be any updates for a few weeks now. Cheers, Andi.
MRDBLUE17
Hi Andi, Theres no rush for mine anyway! Have a good holiday and look forward to your updates when you are back up and running again! Thanks, Mark
Stroudie
Andi, Well done on 57604, very nice finish, not happy that John supplies you decals before me! Saw her today in the sunshine at OOC, it's a very impressive paint job. Dominic
cairnsroadworks
Some more pics of 57604 especially for John - copies en route to your email! Numberplates.... Nice cabside shields.... Cheers, Andi.
cairnsroadworks
hi andi, some cracking pics there.how did you do the lower lights on the euro phoenix? they look the part. those harry needle class 20s look very familiar! regards, bob Hi Bob, I scratchbuilt the Europhoenix lights using plasticard and some 57 bits from Shawplan. Well I'm back from my holidays in the south of France with a bump, although happily I managed to fit in some modelling yesterday and today! Whilst i was away I sent my airbrush for servicing and also purchased a new compressor as my old cheap one broke. Well the new one is amazing - spent over £200 on it but well worth it I think. Whilst I was without brush and compressor I finished a few locos that have been almost done for a while. Here to start is a simple detail job on 57307, no repaint and a light weathering: Also fitted Howes sound to it which really brings it to life. I'm strangely a big fan of 57s, especially the virgin ones. Not sure why as I don't really like 47s but there you go! Speaking of 47s I have almost finished 47270. This is based on the 'old' Class 57 based Bachmann model. Perfect for 47270 as it has all the 57 details as it was the testbed! Also fitted it with 57 bogies: This one doesn't have functioning lights, although I am intending to do another which will! Next up I have finally finished fiddling with one of the REX Class 37s I have in stock! Here is WCRC 37516 with its playmate 37676: And here it is on its own: I spent a little while before I went away researching on YouTube the sound packages available, and to me Howes seemed the best. So I sent a few decoders away to reprogramming, bought a couple of small bass reflex speakers from DCC supplies and hey presto! A real sounding 37! Can't advocate this system enough - a million percent better than the Bachmann sound. Next up 86501 returned to works for its cab refurbishment, and had the honour of being the first loco to be painted with my new airbrush set up! It now has sparkling cab window surrounds as per the prototype: It did amuse me when doing this that those on here who hate Heljan's effort have criticised the cab windows the most - this modification highlights them! Looks fine with my eyes. This has Olivias trains sound in it - excellent and highly recommended. Managed to squeeze 2 tiny round speakers inside it too! That's all for now - hopefully enough to keep people amused. I'm working on 66048 & 92017 in Stobart colours at the moment, as well as the usual tranche of DRS 37s for Rannoch Moor - 37229 & 37261 - as well as 37409, 608 & 611! More next time.... Cheers, Andi. RMweb Gold Accurascale Fran Posted July 18, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 18, 2010 Nice work Andi, have followed your thread for a while. Contemplating doing an 86 in the new Freightliner Powerhaul livery? You seem to like your 86's, looks like a bit of a pig of a livery to do though! MRDBLUE17
Hi Andi, Hope you had a good holiday and the bump wasn't the landing! I have experienced 2 heavy ones at Edinburgh before - the captain blaimed the auto pilot as the weather was really bad and the other was due to the brakes having to come on hard as the plane had to use the old short runway in the early hours whilst the main one was getting tarmaced! I can't believe how many locos are in your update! I think your freightliner 86 looks really good - are you going to be doing the new liveried one as well to go with it! 37 516 looks very good and I noticed you have added a lot of details to it with the different buffers at each end and nose grills - must have taken some work to get that one done! I totally agree with you going for the Howes chips in your 37's as I have 4 sound fitted models and 37406 with the early Howes 37 decoder is still the most fun to drive and really does sound good with plenty of thrash! I need to get a few more for my fleet including 37 676 that you released from works to me. Thanks, Mark
cairnsroadworks
Yes I do fancy doing a powerhaul 86, just the small problem of available transfers, but I'm working on it! Mark - had a transfer disaster with 37229, varnished the DRS compass logo and it has disintegrated!! Not sure why - but been a while since I've had a problem so i was due one! Replacements are en route already though and i haven't tackled the nose ends yet anyway! Cheers, Andi.

cairnsroadworks
Dave if you want to send me a set I'm more than happy to try em!! Anyhoo another update, with yet more DRS tractors rolling through the works! First up is 37608: Next up is 37611: These have used the REX twinpack as the base models, old transfers off, new ones on. Then added the noses and roof headlights and hey presto. They just need air pipes to finish. Next up a pair heading shortly as 0Z37 to Rannoch Moor, 37229 & 37261: 37229 has seen a lot of work to get the noses right - they were stolen from a Bachmann 37/4 which in turn used the 37688 noses off the donor model for 37611! Finally a couple of Stobart Rail repaints are underway. 92017 has already featured on here, but 66048 hasn't. I have self mixed the paint - a mix of Provincial blue and British Steel blue! That's all for now, more next week, which will feature a completed 66048, and may feature a couple of LLB 37/4s based at Inverness! Cheers, Andi. Simon Moore
I might get round to finishing 92017 Bart the Engine as well - the shell is painted, just need to finish the underframe - a hybrid of Lima 92 and Bachmann 66 with Olivias 92 sound! Cheers, Andi. Wish you would finish this one off then we can see the outcome because i want one !!! I've been checking this thread for ages to see if Bart's progressed & still nothing. I must admit i am really looking forward to seeing this one finished. Simon.

Oxford are doing a Heanor Heavy Haul one at some point. I am looking forward to spotting those 37's at Rannoch, I think they will be hauling the BP tanks for DB Schenker! Simon, Sorry I thought I had posted the first 92 I did on here. As it happened, this one just got refinished as a standard Lima one and flogged to provide much needed modelling funds!! The one i am working on at the moment will be the one with sound etc. Here is the first one anyway just for reference. The next one will be better! Cheers, Andi.
