Thane of Fife
There are several examples of kits which are still available being advertised at prices way above manufacturer's prices. I think the sellers must look at prices of the high price vendors and add the date. I spotted a book in the window of a local charity shop, went inside and asked the price. When I said that it was too expensive and I could buy it cheaper new from a specialist fairly local dealer. The manager informed me that it was on offer for more on Ebay, and didn't like it when I remarked that it was on Ebay as it was priced too high and wasn't selling. If it was priced correctly, it would have been sold, and no longer on Ebay. Thane of Fife
Il Grifone
This is an expensive rebuild. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/58herbiejon/m.html?item=161315857322&hash=item258f2ca3aa&pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 He obviously doesn't expect the loco to sell in a hurry - "I will keep working on this model and if I finish it before its sold the price will rise to reflect materials used." The manager dropped the price so much that I then felt guilty and put half the difference in the charity box on the counter. Andrew
Horsetan
Charity shops are very clued-up about railway books, I find.

Andrew I would not of felt guilty, but then again I would never of used Oxfam. They had last time I look a very poor rate going to charity.

I blame Rails of Sheffield - every Dapol wagon is worth its weight in gold according to them.
Horsetan
Meanwhile, someone's more or less doubled his money on a GBL Deltic.... They were only £8.99 to start with. Edited May 26, 2014 by Horsetan
RMweb Premium petethemole Posted May 26, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 26, 2014 Also selling (separately) the Schools boiler/footplate unit and cab unit and (as one lot) the Deltic chassis+bogies and the Schools wheels/motion. No bids yet though.
Horsetan
Even though "flossytusslepot" is now well-known as a spare parts and wrecks specialist, I think even he must be scratching his head at the frenzy over the GBL stuff. There's just no logic to it.
Cleefy
"Langley Models ref E/B1 LNER/BR B1 4-6-0 body/tender kit made up" Made up as in imaginary? Or do you mean it's been built? In which case, given that it's "sold as is, no returns", might it not be an idea to let us see the f&%$ing thing?

Il Grifone
What has this poor little 835 done to deserve this? (and I would have thought the wagon with her should be Italian too?) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/scrapyard-00-GAUGE-0-6-0-loco-and-scrap-wagon-heavily-rusted-and-weathered-/291152058345?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item43ca03d7e9 Perhaps putting the kit together properly might have been a good starting point! This one is more credible, as the weathering is not overdone, but surely the roof and white paint around the cab windows etc. should show more signs of use? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/00-GAUGE-Deltic-diesel-loco-heavily-weathered-/291151490360?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item43c9fb2d38

T9's WERE NICKNAMED 'GREYHOUNDS' BECAUSE OF THEIR TURN OF SPEED. THEY WERE USED TO PULL LIGHT EXPRESSES FROM PLYMOUTH TO WATERLOO Leading to a massive pile of T9s at Waterloo and none anywhere else? Oh, it's rare and currently at £147.90. I ask in all innocence - is that a reasonable price?
