92001 ,double or single chimney ?

Recommended Posts

Hi

This is my first post on the S+D group so Hi to every one .

I recently put a weathered and modded Bachmann 9F on ebay .Several people messaged me to inform me that it had a single chimney in S+D days .however on another forum last year or so when I posted a shot with a single chimney I weas informed they had double chimneys .I throw the gauntlet dow .Whats correct ?.I took the sale off ebay as I was raising money to buy another guitar and sacrifices ,even a meaningless gesture ,were demanded by the CEO.I hit my target with 9F intact .i normally lurk on the US railroading group

I was aiming for a not too dirty model but I see the chimney area could do with a bit more /

thanks

Martin

Reading the article that picture was in, there's this quote - "In 1961 Bath (Green Park) shed was allocated double-chimney '9Fs' Nos 92000, 92001, 92006 and 92212 for the duration of the summer timetable.".

There's a pic of 92001 in my Edward Talbot book with a double chimney passing Bath Junction on the 14th July 1962. It also says they were only allowed on passenger trains in the summer months as they had no steam carriage heating apparatus.

certain-ly in June 1961 (according to pic caption) had a single chimney on S+D

Sorry but that is deffo a double chimney, in a couple of my BR Standards books some early 9Fs were retro fitted with Double chimneys between 1958 and 60 and that includes 92001.

Hope that helps your deliberations....

I think we've had a similar thread to this before. From various data I've pulled together, here's the 9F chimney situation: 92000 - 92019, 92030 - 92164, 92168 - 92177, 92179 - 92182 built with single chimney 92020 - 92029 Crosti boiler 92165 - 92167, 92178, 92183 - 92250 built with double chimney Subsequent changes: 92000 double chimney 3.60 @ Swindon 92001 " 4.60 92002 " 12.60 92005 " 5.60 92006 " 9.60 (Dates are release from Swindon, so actual date chimney fitted will be earlier) 92020 - 92029 rebuilt as conventional locos @ Crewe 1959-62 92250 fitted with Giesl oblong ejector @ Rugby Testing Station 1959 Hope that clarifies things.
