Talltim
I assume it has standard drawgear and buffers on the inner end and that the adaptor coaches are for the EMT HST trailer? What was that doing there?
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted March 31, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 31, 2012 The barrier coaches are 6392 and probably 6397 (with "porterbrook" branding on one end) - they are normally used for moving HST trailers around and have recently been kept at Neville Hill. They may have been included - with the Mk3 for brake force purposes. IIRC, the prototype HST, including the trailer cars were all conventionally buffer fitted with single phase ETS as opposed to the buckeye/3-phase of the production units. Two of the trailers later went to the Royal Train and some of the others have found service in test/research use and at least one of them is now with the NMT. The standard drawgear came in useful later, as the prototype power cars were used on test trains, particularly with the APT-P test program. DavidB-AU
I guess it's not technically a class 252 as the rest of the DEMU is in use elsewhere or scrapped. Is it actually (re)classed as locomotive 41001 or DMB 43000? Cheers David
RMweb Gold big jim Posted April 1, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 1, 2012 as newbryford says the coaches are there for brake force, you will probably find the hst is unbraked and under freight train rules there must be 3 braked vehicles at the rear of a train, or at least behind the unbraked vehicle similarly thats why the met s-stock moves have 3 barrier vehicles both ends
LeeWL
Excellent news and a great video. I wish all involved well with this project. Its still a great pity the other power car was scrapped though.
