Southernman46
Hi All, Seeking a bit of advice I've a number of Dapol tank wagon kits made from the darkish grey re-cycled plastic to construct. However, having repaired a broken solebar using Humbrol Liquid Poly glue it doesn't seem to be sticking properly. The two parts are being stuck together with the glue forming the joint (and very weak) joint rather than fusing the parts together as with normal polystyrene. The instruction offer no info on the type of glue to be used and I assume this means ordinary poly cement. Could anyone offer any advice as to a better glue to use with this type of plastic please ? Many thanks in advance, SM46
brossard
Try a solvent formulated for ABS plastic. Your hobby shop should have it. Like Plastic Weld, Mek Pak or Butanone: https://www.eileensemporium.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=7&Itemid=9. This solvent is nasty so the usual H&S warnings apply. Kev_Lewis
I agree with brossard. From my own experience SLATER'S Mek Pak is brilliant stuff.
Ben Alder
TBH, you are a lot better off buying these wagon kits on Ebay as the original Airfix releases, as the plastic is of a far higher quality and goes together with regular poly cements. They are not rare and often are actually cheaper than current prices.
