Recommended Posts

Hi I need a little info' please the CN SD 40-2W apart from of course the comfort cab (I don't know why but I have a a number of kits for it?) and the replacement of the handbreak is there much difference between the SD40-2 and SD40-2W?

As always any help is very welcome :senile: :mail:

And of course I should be asking if any of you have model'ed one :sorry:

Can't help with specific detail but I think they also had winterisation covers over the intakes directly behind the cab.

I'd search Railpictures.net using CN and sd40 filters from the lists and see what it finds.

Hi thanks for the info' on that CN lines link. I've had a look at the Intermountain SD40-2W it looks good but I've been told its a poor runner.

Of course I've never seen one run so this may not be right. However one thing that was pointed out to me by a friend in the State's is that they

are not selling very well over there? There are lots on e-bay. Anyway thanks again I'm going to try and fit a c/cab to a SD40-2 and see what it looks like :O .

Canadian built 2nd generation EMDs have different steps, available from Miniatures by Eric and Railflyer (I think), I've done a CP Rail SD40-2 and I'm doing a GP30 http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicks_trainstuff/sets/72157622660400096/

Of course CN bought 2nd hand US built SD40-2s if you want an easier job! http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/cn/cn5368aar.jpg http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/cn/cn5377amr.jpg

Rapido is doing a Canadian (MLW) FP4A & B and also the GMD1 but at the moment their efforts are on getting their model of "The Canadian" out to dealers so word on other stuff may have to wait for a bit. They have laser scanned the FP4A & B and have a GMD1 available for measurements so it is early days for both but IIRC, the GMD1 is *supposed* to be out in 2013 all being well in China and assuming sufficient advanced orders.

Nice looking loco sorry to go on about it but I've read the loco come's DCC fitted is that right, if so what do you think of the chip?

its the non sound version with factory installed Soundtraxx decoder, out of the box it runs fast compared to the others (Athearn with TCS decoder etc).

but now i've played with a few cv's I've got it speed matched fairly close!

the odd thing though you cant alter CV 5 & 6 Vmax/Vmid

Thank you that may come in handy. I'm going to order a unit from the states not many about over here its loco number 5271 the one with CN and the map on the side.

They had one with just CN and their web page address but I'm not sure what date that loco would have ran in

The website one is their current scheme, but there are still stripe and map ones about.

Absolutely - I saw a set earlier this week of 2 'maps' and one 'embarassed zebra'.

Hi again just picked up my InterMountain SD40-2W very happy with it as you said a little light but the detail is very nice just one thing

what do you think of the ditch lights there seems to be a lot of over-spill.

For the price a very nice loco and I see they are bringing s/cab locos out to.
