I knew about the middle bit I think it's a bracket to hold the tanks on. Anyway I had noticed it in pictures but the end brackets were a new one on me. Ken sent some pics which were a great help plus I found a pic that a friend had taken a few years back and sent me.

I finished off 25059 tonight, it's had the same treatment as 244. Once again this was an old model done about 17 years ago, It was running with two power bogies but since going DCC it had been out of use.

25059 seems a popular with modellers as I have seem a few others over the years Kevpeo's Bachmann loco is a real beast. 25059 was one of the last class 25s in traffic and was withdrawn at Buxton, but was reinstated to haul a couple of locos back to Crewe making  it the last class 25 with early body style to be in service. 

 

Work on my 97406 is going well, the chassis is weathered and the body is almost done though I did almost forget to fill in the boiler port on the roof. I will try and get some pics after the weekend.

I have finally finished 97406 and 25059. Here are some pics of the loco's on Llanbourne.I have tried to capture the look of 97406 as she was in her last year of service, with missing horn grilles and missing sandbox filler cap. The loco also had some writting under the cab which I have tried to copy along with the general worn out look of the loco.

A long overdue update,but I have finally finished a few things. I also needed to tidy the workbench too which was long overdue, I took a pic before it gets untidy again.

 

First up is my Heljan 128. I removed the two sandboxes that hadn't already broken off  and made up a new speedo cable. I also changed the buffers to the cut down ones at one end as this unit ran like this, a crew has been added along with some weathering.

 

Following the 128 are some Lima Parcel vans, I have replaced the Lima bogies with some Mainline and Replica ones with the correct 14mm wheels.

 

I have also weathered up some Bachmann PCA cemment wagons and a couple of older Hornby models to go with the three I already had. I have fitted some Colin Craig brake discs to these and a few other wagons in the past few weeks as well they look quite good.

Well another month and I have finished another model. I thought this might have been a fairly quick project but it seems to have taken ages. Back on page 4 the plan was to put an older Bachmann class chassis under my Lima D200, but since then I have had a change of plan. What happened was I bought a Bachmann green disc loco which is currently in bits being changed to D200. This meant the older Bachmann chassis could be used under my 40012 97407, The plan was always going to be to do this at some point as since doing 97407 about 18 years ago  it's always been a favourite loco of mine. 

Over the years 97407 has had some improvements, I didn't weather the loco straight away because we move house about the time I finished painting it and once we had moved I wanted to get the layout set up. Anyways by the time I came to weather the loco I decided to do etch windows and fit an etch roof fan. Once weathered the loco became a firm favourite and has seen a lot of use, last year I fitted a decoder and the although the loco ran ok it just wasn't as good as the Bachmann and Hornby loco's running on the layout.

 

With a bit of work the loco body fits on the chassis really well pipework was fitted to the bogie sides and and lifting points fitted to the chassis along the rectangle section and gauge made from plasticard above the centre of the bogies. The chassis has also been lowered by removing some of the casting where the gear towers locate. 

 

97407 now runs like a dream here are a few pics plus some of the progress on D200.

Bit of an update, 33111 is back together and looking quite good it just needs a few touch ups to finish off. The roof grilles have arrived for my class 56 and the 20s are waiting for some bufferbeam detailing. D200 is almost ready to go back together too. As you can see the workbench is in it's usual condition.

Sorry to be nit-picking (perhaps outrageously so, really sorry), but did 97407 have the red stripe on the axleboxes? My understanding is that the red stripe became obsolete in around 1964 when the previously experimental type of axle grease (which the red stripe denoted) became the adopted standard.

Hi David, While 40012 was a 97 it got quite a few little extra's painted. Red bufferbeam white window surrounds and a half finished white cantrail stripe. at some point someone must have thought yellow axle boxes might look nice and for some reason added the red line. 

As Scott mentioned google and Flickr are a great source of pictures and information and there are quite a few nice pics of 97407.

Thanks for pointing it out though, if it had been wrong I would have happily changed it.

I haven't done much this week, still working on D200 and 56070. I pulled an MGR apart last night to see what needs doing, I put some 14mm wheels on so will have to lower it by a few mm.

As 56070 is getting to the weathering stage I thought I should have a look at sorting the train it will be pulling on Llanbourne.

 

They are 12 x Railroad MGRs I know they have their faults but they look pretty good to me and they were a good price. Being railroad models the wheels are crap so they will be replaced with Steam Era Models 14mm wheels. This makes the wagon sit a bit high so I have removed some plastic on the chassis  while at it I fixed the wheel set at one end and reduced the play at the other to stop the wobble. Hornby couplers are being replaced with Kadee's.

I have just come in from the garage and have found a problem which I have just been sorting out. One of the  my Kadee's came off  and when I gave the others a bit of a poke they fell of too. It's the crappy Plastic used for that part of the wagon as the chassis is ok. I have used some plasticard stuck to the chassis which should hold, the fixed end is no problem but the end I have left with a bit of play has had a section removed to allow the Kadee to sit glued on the chassis and still allow some movement for the the other bit. Hard to explain so I will post a pic.

 

The buffers are a bit puny, not sure of the correct ones to buy but I was going to have a look in my bits box. 12 packs of buffers might start to get a bit expensive.

Good article by (George Dent) on upgrading the later MGR hoppers in Model Rail issue 162 (Nov 11) if you have or can find a copy, includes fitting cast buffers - Foremost Models or Intercity Models - HD split shank oleos

Peter, it's good for me to see how you are approaching the HAA upgrade - I have a slug of these on my workbench at the moment too. I mistakenly ordered the wrong replacement wheels so mine are staying undersized. Replacement buffers are under consideration, too.

I will look into those buffers, 97407 is great I am really happy with how it runs now, it's my favourite loco at the moment. Currently sat on a ballast in Llanbourne station.
