eastwestdivide
What's the guy sprinkling on the ramp at about 1:06 onwards? Looks about the size of a pack of Pringles!
lankyphil
What's the guy sprinkling on the ramp at about 1:06 onwards? Looks about the size of a pack of Pringles! I'm guessing sand for adhesion. I'm more intrigued at the bloke jumping onto the front of the trailer to - seemingly - stop the engine from running into the swan neck?
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted July 23, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 23, 2012 Fascinating - takes all sorts!! I wonder if they dropped the fire before they drove off - but then that pile of cut timber might just have been fuel as it didn't look much use for packing. 10800
Dropping the fire would be interesting, or was it transported in steam? (EDIT - Mike beat me to it) Bit like driving the Mini Coopers onto the bus in the Italian Job!

RMweb Premium eldavo Posted July 24, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 24, 2012 Pah, and you complain about the gradients on the Mid Hants! Clearly nothing could possibly go wrong in such a simple loading operation. I sure as heck wouldn't have been crouching down beside the back of the trailer with that thing climbing the ramp! Presumably they had dropped the fire before loading. Cheers Dave
stewartingram
I've seen a number of traction engines carried on low-loaders in the UK whilst in steam, so why drop the fire? Presumably they would unload in a similar fashion. Mind you, though not a fan of Elf & Safety (regulations), there was a distinct lack of it here!
