Hi ALL

Grotty bank holiday weather so had to do some bits to the layout.......Ain't life tough !!!!!

In Reeces last picture you can see the  white plastic strip that served to stop any trains falling off the traverser should there be a derailment.....

I replaced these today with two full lengths of 9mm plywood to act as strengtheners to stop any sagging of the board which was previously only supported by two strips of 20x45 planed timber on either edge......The ply has been glued & screwed to the aforementioned planed timber support so should provide ample support to stop further sagging......

I also fixed some clips under the baseboards to hold the between board plug/sockets as before they just dangled.......

I ran the NSE train round & round but did the BSK derail......OF COURSE NOT.....So I replaced the wheels & at least it runs smoothly now.....

I also ran the wagons that had been derailing near the end of the show & neither derailed so I'm pretty sure it was as I thought it was just a slight drop in the joint between the baseboard & the curved link to the traverser causing them to jump off at the slight height difference.....If I can I may try to put fishplates in but they would be liable to get damaged in transit so I don't really want to......

  • 1 month later...

Hi All

Well the Bodmin show is on next weekend so this week coming any spare time will be spent making sure wheels are clean & everything works as it should.....

Been a frustrating few months as I just haven't had the time to do some of the things I had planned to do !!!!!!

In fact all I have managed is to make, paint & weather a Turbot & two Grampus wagons & make & fit loads to my Sealion rake......

Pictures to follow in due course.......

Anyway I am looking forward to next weekend.....Always good fun & hope to see some of you there maybe......

Cheers Bill

Edit due to yet again pressing the wrong button (I wish I knew which one) & sending before finishing post.....

Hi All

Well day one over.....Time whizzed past as always......

Thanks to my son Will last night for helping me set up.....

Gave me a bit extra time in bed this morning!!!!!!

On my own today so won't have time to see the other layouts 'till tomorrow.....

However all ran well except for operator error......

One or two issues with rolling stock but all resolved before the show opened so no problems there.....

I am right in the entrance....The first layout people saw as they came in......

At most shows there seems to be a theme of questions......

Todays where mainly from new entrants of all ages asking very basic questions which I was very pleased to try & answer.....

The only drawback being on my own it meant that trains didn't always run.....No shuttle on this layout !!!!!!

The other main question was about my auto couplings.....this is common to most shows......

The show seemed quite busy & it was nice to see quite a few kids taking an interest......

Any way a few pics......

It was nice to catch up with Reece again.....

He brought along his class 47 Tamar which performed light engine duties.....

Hi All

Well that's another show over & layout packed away in the railway room......

First a big thank you to the Bodmin club for the invite......I really enjoyed the show & their hospitality.......Thanks lads.....

Also for the help today from my son & grandson.....Certainly made life easier.......SWMBO also came along...Probably to make sure I behaved & didn't spend too much cash !!!!

Anyway the layout performed very well.....No mishaps except operator error when I was trying to talk & operate !!!!!!!

Seemed to have a good audience......Today's interest was in the traverser & associated curved boards......

Some pictures.....Left it a bit late & rushed them so not as good as they might be but......

This was the punters first view as they came in the door.....

Well no more shows this year but 3 verbal invites for next but as none have been confirmed yet watch this space......

Not much major to do to the layout now except all the never ending added detail that can be added.....

How much of that gets done depends on exhibition invites......

Next is to convert Penhallick Junction to a roundy roundy & the baseboard tops are cut for the next project......Watch this space !!!!!

Cheers Bill

Lovely set of pictures Bill, very evocative. Any hints on the next project? Penhallick and Creedyford are both very much in my areas of interest, I'm intrigued what you're going to cook up next! :)

Hi Rich

Thanks for the above post....Most appreciated.....

The next project may not be in your area of interest......

I have toyed with the idea for a while of  S&D themed layout.....

I've got most of the stock I need & 2016 is 60 years on from the closure of this line.....

I have a provisional date for completion/exhibition invite for August 2016 but we'll see......

Anyway once Penhallick has been converted to a roundy roundy by building the curved end boards building can begin on the new project while I sort out Sectorisation stock for Penhallick Junction at the same time......

It looks like Mudmagnet will be there as well with Acacia Ave. It will have to be a big table.
