treggyman
Hi Bill (although you may not be home yet!) Good to meet you and chat today while the apprentice was busy running the trains! The layout was as good in the flesh as it looks in pictures and ran very well. I hope to see you up here sometime. Just finished unloading & poured a glass of fizzy brown liquid to enjoy...... Great to meet you & put a face to an Avatar..... Thanks for the comment above regarding the layout .... The apprentice was certainly keeping me busy but did give me an opportunity to answer questions etc........ Hope fully we'll catch up with each other again sometime Cheers Bill
mikeyh
Hi Bill, It was great to see Creedyford 'in the flesh' on Saturday. Even when you think you know a layout from here you get a completely different perspective from seeing it in real life. You seemed to be doing a pretty good job of keeping things moving on your own - a few of the other layouts with large teams of operators could learn a thing or two from you! Cheers, Mike

Cheers, Mike Hi Mike Thanks for the comment....Really appreciated...... I must admit I do like to keep things moving if I can....Especially when there is an audience of kids..... My limited experience tells me that the reason most people go to shows is to see trains running......Especially the kids & those not really into the hobby.....So I try to oblige..... treggyman
Hi All As you can tell from the above I have safely returned from the Taunton show which was excellent in my opinion both from an exhibitor's & punters point of view..... Met lots of RMWebbers had a great time & was really made welcome by Steve & all the crew at the show..... Nothing was too much trouble.....Food & accommodation excellent & a very appreciative audience....... My young helper was a great lad......Polite,well mannered & a pleasure to be assisted by......He really picked up the controls very quickly ,he is only 10 years old......Thanks for your help......Sadly I forgot to ask his name......Could be Liam !!!!!! I'm awful with names but I forgot to ask him his but I think that's what someone called him..... Will post some pics tomorrow but we have a slight domestic problem...... The upstairs ring main keeps tripping for no apparent reason & not all the time..... Shame I can't just tip the house upside down to find the problem!!!!!! Any way hopefully post a full report tomorrow with pics Cheers Bill

treggyman
Hi All Well another show over & a great time had by me if tiring........ As said above the organisation ,help, members , venue ,accommodation & food were all excellent.......Thanks again for the invite...... Well the layout ran well with one exception......The servos on the level crossing gates...... When they were down every time the points were changed they flicked quite dramatically..... Oddly enough when up only one point affected them in this way..... Also I use two Peco wheel cleaners to power loco's when wheel cleaning & when this was in use it had the same effect...... One can only surmise that as all use the same 12volt supply it must be the draw on this that causes the motors to be effected as the 'control panel' that controls the servos is always on...... Anyway I'll fit a separate power source & see if it makes any difference....... Oddly the gates didn't rise together as they had done at home......One started as the other had nearly finished!!!!!! A couple of views of the farm..... 33007 was running the empties to Meldon..... The parcels train was popular with the kids with it's brightly coloured stock....... The Rat was on shunting duties & ran superbly......The magnets are only about 6mm in diameter so very accurate positioning is required...... 47535 performed well on it's replacement service to Barnstaple..... & finally a couple of pics of the double headed 33's on the loaded Meldon Sealion/seacows including my helper..... Well thats all for now...... No more shows definitely booked though a couple in the pipeline....Watch this space..... There are now a few jobs to do apart from the servos...... The layout needs one or two repairs due to travel damage (backscene, trees, flock, paint etc) & a few areas will have their scenics added too....... Then there's the new one to build....... Cheers Bill
RMweb Premium DLT Posted October 28, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 28, 2015 Great to see Creedyford at Taunton, and thanks very much for taking the time for a chat. All the best, Dave.
treggyman
Hi All Cracked it I think.......The servo problem that is....... I had tried everything I could think of..... Moved the servo's.shielded their supply wires, moved the control gismo that drove the servo's,changed the control gismo & the servo's.used a separate clean 12 volt supply......No change........ I was taking it all apart today with a view to drive the barriers with Tortoise point motors when it struck me the only thing I hadn't changed was the switch that controls the up & down movement....... So I fitted a switch that had no wires running close to any others & BINGO......Problem seems to be solved........ As all the wiring runs together to form a loom where it crosses the board joints by means of computer D connectors there must be an induced current/voltage caused each time the point motors were operated......I have had to take a separate 12v supply to the control unit as the same problem occurred when I used the normal supply....I have used the second set of terminals on my transformer for this.....Again lots of wires running together I assume causing power to be generated....... Any way seems OK now so a bit of tidying up & work can start on the next project..... Cheers Bill
RAY NORWOOD
Hi Bill Glade you got that sorted, that is the problem with electricity is trying to find a fault and nearly always ends up something so very simple.
treggyman
Hi All Crumbs didn't realise how long ago the last post on this thread was!!!!!! Anyway Creedyford is being let loose at the Hayle show this coming weekend..... Last time it ran was at Taunton last year..... It will be good to see Ray & Mudmagnet again with their layouts..... I got it down today from it's shelf..... Wired in the amendments to sort the problem with the level crossing gates mentioned above..... Also repaired where the track on the Exeter end corner board had got damaged.... Will need to fix two more bits of tube on the traverser that have gone missing from the locking mechanism.... Then tomorrow a quick running session & wheel clean...... Just one minor panic.....Went to visit the grandkids today & on the way home the gear linkage snapped...... Mobile in other vehicle so had to drive back to my sons in first gear to contact the AA.... Give them their due....They were15mins quicker than they said (35mins wait) & the Patrolman did a botch repair that got me home (he followed just in case) Not cheap but worth it to a non car person like me..... Any way hopefully I can get it repaired by Friday otherwise it's Landrover time....No problem except it doesn't all fit in the landrover & I've used some of the 'shelving' bits elsewhere......& SWMBO was planning to use it on the Sunday !!!!!!!!!! All sent to entertain..... Hopefully see some of you there over the weekend..... Cheers Bill

treggyman
Hi All again Twice in two days after such a long break........ Well the good news is that the van is fixed.....Really lucky to have a local garage who we always use & even though the proprietor is away on holiday his mechanics fitted the job in & fixed it...... Well lots of wheel cleaning....fitting of couplings & repairs.... All seems to be working fine..... Tomorrow ,clean out van & load layout & then off to Sunny Hayle...... Cheers Bill
RAY NORWOOD
Hi Bill It will be great seeing you at the weekend. Glade you got the van sorted. Will you be there Friday evening to say up.

treggyman
Hi All All set up at Hayle... All seems to work at the moment except for some of the Kadee's..... Varying coupling mount heights usual problem..... Shall use some of the Bachmann fixed coupling bars & see how I get on....... The only issue I can forsee is the actual coupling up..... Cheers Bill
Melangoose
Hi Bill, It's nice to see you posting again on Creedyford (we have all missed it). Hope you have a great weekend, a picture of a 50 on the Meldon ballast train would be nice. Nigel
treggyman
Hi All Well day one over......A good day was had....The layout ran fine considering the last time it had been taken down from it's storage shelf was last October at the Taunton show....One or two little niggles but soon sorted....... The weather was glorious....Really nice ,sunny & warm so I would guess there weren't as many people through the door as there might have been but the audience ebbed & flowed sometimes dead sometimes very busy..... Nice to catch up with Ray & Mudmagnet again....... The kids loved the working level crossing gates & the sound effects went down well too....(with the kids but not all adults) I did keep the siren switched off most of the time though as I am aware it can be annoying but the joy on the face of one young lad meant it was on for ages...... Made his day by letting him come behind the layout with his parents permission to operate the gates & lights/siren...... At the end of the day... The way I look at it it is more important that a youngster goes away from an exhibition with a positive & fun lasting memory.... The hobby needs youngsters..... Any way managed a few pics..... The layout set up... The Rat ran the freight train & shunted the stock in the yard faultlessy....Really smooth & responsive to control.... A pic of the coal yard.... & suitable wagon.... The Dutch 33's on the loaded Meldon ballast A pic of the Barnstaple end of the yard.... & with University of Leicester arriving.... & finally a couple of 33007 on the Meldon empties..... Well that's all for this evening..... Cheers Bill

Melangoose
Hi Bill A nice set of pictures, especially like the pair of Dutch 33's with seacow/sealions (just as good as a 50 in my book). Hope you have a good second day at the exhibition. Nigel

Hope you have a good second day at the exhibition. Nigel Excellent pics Bill, I love double headed 33's, brings back memories of Eastleigh in the Good Old Days, superb. Hi Nigel & Andy Thanks for the above comments.... I agree about the 33's double heading..... I saw a pair of blue ones being banked by a third one up the bank from StDavids to Central in Exeter once with a full load of loaded Seacows/Sealions..... Sadly didn't record numbers or how many wagons.... Quite a sight Cheers Bill
treggyman
Hi All Well safely back & unloaded..... First a big thankyou to the Hayle Crew for making me most welcome....As usual well fed & watered & nothing too much trouble.... THANK YOU very much..... Another quiet day punters wise but the weather was quite good again...... The layout ran well..... Not that I was allowed much of a go...... Once my grandson got the controls....That was it.....He certainly seemed to enjoy it.... The good thing is he is now 11 so has more control & although hasn't got a complete knowledge of how a railway works he is learning..... Once he got the hang of the uncoupling mechanism there was no stopping him..... Took some more pics today.... The Dutch 33's were rested from their Meldon duties.... & 50035 took over.... A view of the barn.... 37207 William Cookworthy in yard with inspection saloon is overtaken by 108 DMU.... & then leaves.... 50002 with NSE set.... Departmental Toad & toolvan in yard.... Rat pokes it's nose out from behind station building..... 33108 on timber duty.... & finally RES 47 on a parcels train..... Well only one more exibition booked or Creedy ford....Next June....So I don't know what the future holds for the layout..... I've soon to have two others complete (Penhallick Junction is & Haydon Gurney is well on it's way) so storage will become an issue.... Time will tell..... It has had other verbal invites but none have come to fruition....The exhibitions have been held already...... Well we all had a great time at Hayle.... Once again thanks to the Hayle Crew & to my nephew Tom,son Will & grandson Christopher for their help this weekend...... Cheers Bill
Melangoose
Bill Another set of great pics, Thanks for the pictures of 50035 on the Ballast train. Creedyford is a lovely layout, hopefully you'll get some more invites so I can be seen to a wider audience. Nigel
treggyman
Hi All August 2016 was my last posting on this thread.......A long time ago....... Well I had been wondering what to do with Creedyford.....Several ideas had cropped up but none as yet actioned..... However I now have a booking for it in November of this year at the Cornwall Model Railway Exhibition at Carn Brea on Sunday Nov 4th...... It will be good to dust this layout down before it probably gets a rework....... More later if no more invites........ Anyway something for me to look forward to....
