To quote Graham Johnston, who took this unrepeatable photo, and to whom we're indebted for permission to reproduce it here:

'Another 'Last Week' shot rescued from the rejects file.
The 0920 Carlisle to Edinburgh speeding through Eskbank on December 31st 1968. Sorry, loco number not recorded.'

Sorry if it's already on this thread, way too much to check back..

Is anyone aware/able to point me at a picture of 67606 in her V3 guise as shedded at Hawick in 1957?

Thanks

Dave

Yes that works great thanks Chard.

A close up would be even handier as I'm hoping to get one build from Atso CADs 3d print here https://www.shapeways.com/product/SNURYF65D/lner-br-v3?optionId=65921096

Cheers

Dave

This one's a bit closer, and is taken in the Borders:

If you search in Google for "images" of "67606 v3", you'll get a few more.

Paydirt!!

On this  page https://lnerlocomotives.livejournal.com/2930.html she's shown to good effect.

If the caption is to be believed the photo was taken slap bang in the period I'm modelling, June 1957, and shows she still had a cycling Lion on the tank side. However the caption is a little suspect as it claims the loco was still allocated to 64A even though just above the picture  confirms her move to Hawick in April 1956.

Thanks for a great steer pH!

Cheers

Dave

Should be possible to date the first one approximately, given that the V2 has its BR number painted on the b.beam.

1965, from Derby Sulzers:

'During February D5414 was transferred to Carlisle (12A), being noted several times on the Longtown branch for crew training.'

1966

'Several days later on July 1st the Royal Train was noted headed south over the Waverley route behind D1974 with D1976 at Hawick as standby.'

Seen a photo of a 47 crossing the Golden Bridge southbound with the Royal Train - looked on Railscot but can't see it. Any clue, Bruce? It might have been one of Robin's colour shots that you once showed me.

Let's see if this works, the Google car, or more probably bike, has traversed the section of route between Parkhouse and a point north of the new A689 near Kingstown Ind.Est. It makes for a rather nice ramble, and various relics and surviving infrastructure can be detected in the undergrowth...

I'm sure it is one of Robin Barbour's colour shots.

Indeed it was Bill, and there were in fact two shots, not just one - Bruce kindly reminded me! I must have seen them whilst looking through Robin's shots at Bruce's house when carrying out location-finding for them.

Track for the Lauder branch bay platform cut back and buffer-stopped adjacent to the platform ramp; a nice modelling detail for those looking for a practical representation of rationalisation, rather than a chocolate box one!
