RMweb Gold mcowgill Posted September 21, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 21, 2012 As I'm busy for the rest of the weekend I took Friday day off to go relive a few memories of smoky Sulzers... 47798 at Crownthorpe with heading for Dereham with the 10:05 from Wymondham Abbey 50 year old 47401 at Crownthorpe at the head of the 10:00 from Dereham 47580 'County of Essex' heads the returning 11:05 ex Wymondham at Wicklewood 47375 'Tinsley Traction Depot' passes Wicklewood on 11:00 ex Dereham Newly restored 47579 'James Nightall GC' at Danewood 47401 'North Eastern' climbs Danewood bank Newly repainted in the later NSE livery, 47596 'Aldeburgh Festival' trails along behind 47401's train at Danewood. Note that the painters had the usual pre-exhibition deadline problems and ran out of time before they could repaint the Stratford grey roof of the previous blue livery. 47596 approaches Thuxton from the south with the 13:05 from Wymondham Abbey 47375 departs south from Thuxton station 47798 heads away from Dereham with the 14:10 departure Scruffy 47703 'St Mungo' viewed (with permission) from the privately owned station at Yaxham. The rain had set in by this time and we decided to go for a ride, Stratford pair 47580 and 47579 double-heading the train to Wymondham, here they are after we arrived at the southern terminus. Had an excellent day out, do pay the line a visit this weekend if you have the chance. Martin

trisonic
Did Stratford pick out the piping on the bogies and the wheel rims in white? Or is it just a preservation thing? I'm afraid that I don't remember... I know there is no piping on the wheel rims....... Best, Pete.

Hi Pete, I think it was more or less the same as today with an open day/special occasion thing back then, although this was before my real interest in photography from mid 90's onward. 47582 at Crown Point open day in May 1987 Cheers Tim

Jim Thompson
This has brought to mind a question that is probably addressed somewhere herein, but I am not sure how to word the search. For the route Wymondham-Dereham-[Fakenham-Wells (pre-Beeching)], is there a source for any timetables/schedule back that far? And would the trains have originated in Norwich, or just connexions from London:Liverpool-Norwich through trains? Thanks muchly and I apologize if it turns out to be simple answer that I should have seen Jimmy
