Gordon A
As has been during the last few years we are finishing our main operating season with a gala fun weekend on the 20th and 21st of October. Our guest steam engine will be the North Norfolk Railways J15 0-6-0 tender loco, also for the first time will be Class 31, 31130 Calder Hall Power Station in Coal Sector livery. Unfortunately the J15 has not yet arrived so I do not have any photographs of her. I should get some on Friday, and post in the evening. Also running will be one or two of our resident locos. There will be a demonstration freight as well as the passenger train. The foot / cycle path that parallels our running track should give enthusiasts some good locations for photographs. Allegheny1600
A cracking little railway! I went on a full days 'driver experience' here a few years ago when there was an ex MSC 0-6-0T there. WOW, what a great day and great characters there. I agree, that path at the side of the track is a great location for train watching, especially at the top of the hill! I'd love to come down and see the J15 but sadly, busy this w/e. Hope you all have a great time, John E.

Gordon A
Some more pictures of what to expect this weekend from todays driver familiarisation day with the J15. I have to say a very nice engine to drive, once you remember to keep your ears tuned to the Westinghouse pump! Firing needs a bit more concentration as it is best to keep a minimum pressure of 140 lbs per square inch. She lifts at 160! Not in any particular order... J15 heading north on the first training train of the day. Karel our stalwart Polish engine being repositioned. I am on her Sunday as fireman. Some of our Great Western restored stock making up the demonstration freight for the weekend. The rest of the train consists of well weathered BR stock. RSH 7151 (Ex Hams Hall Power Station No 9) being re positioned. Both Karel and RSH 7151 will be running with the J15 and the class 31 on both days. J15 heading south tender first. J15 at Avon Riverside having run round her train, waiting to depart north to Bitton. Andy Plumb swinging the shovel while Ken Hill looks on. Both are drivers. Hopefull this should be an enjoyable fun weekend if our previous galas are anything to go by. The steam crew are signing on at 05:30 both days, an hour earlier than our normal running days. Vanders
I popped along on Sunday afternoon, and by luck happened to show up at Oldland just as 31130 was running around. It was nice to be able to stand and track level only a couple of foot away. The demonstration goods was great to see, as was the 31 (even if 31's didn't run along the line!). Can we have more diesels please, AVR? How about some local traction; Hymeks were regulars.
Gordon A
My last few pictures of the gala. The next two pictures show the locos on shed just before being called out to their allocated starting places on Sunday. The last picture shows the GWR Toad brake van on our partially fitted freight showing the appropiate lamps for such. All our wagons are through piped even if they are not vacum braked. The freight had a vacum braked head and middle which meant time was not wasted running round. Four locomotive and three trains - two passenger and one freight - in three miles of line led to some quite intensive working! The last train of the day from Avon Riverside to Bitton was triple headed with the J15 in the lead, on four coaches. Well we have to have some fun.
