I dont apologise for posting a link to this 1048 photo again - its a large part of the inspiration for Abbotswood!

The other end of her career - but a great loco till the end...

Why does the page name come up as "Class 53 diesels in Worcestershire" when you open the link... :scratchhead: Like the photo of D1017 in particular.

Wishful thinking by the webmaster perhaps? have already pointed it out! Class 53 did appear in Worcestershire but never seen a picture thereof

This weekend sees me busy modifying a railroad class 31 to pr-tops condition.

The work involved is a long drawn out saga.

removing all moulded detail from the cabs/scratchbuilt valances and drilling and filing out the headcode. And flushglazing the cab windows.

I decided on the railroad version as a cheaper way as Hornby dont do a pr-tops blue version.

Depending on how she looks i plan to put in cab detail and lights.

anyway back to it.

Super! D1011 is a fave of mine too - photo on same web page as D1048

The lack of a non refurb blue 31 is a frustration to us too - yours looks like a good un! Have you left her on the RR chasis - what does that run like?

yes shes still on the railroad motor and runs ok although sticky at slow speed.I have added extra weight but she will pull 7 Bachmann coaches with ease as she has 2 traction tyes.

I have numbered her 5530 as was a frequent WR visiter but my hymeks will not be taken over by class 31 interloopers although a welcome addition to the layout.

I am very pleased how shes turned out.

Just to add on the western front.

D1030 western musketeer was my 1st western seen,1973 bedford midland rd,D1011 however i have very mixed memories off her.Seeing her 1st march 1975 old oak common on my 1st visit there, and was seen once more there on a west of england express.Later i saw her many times on the dump at swindon later with weeds coming out of her roof.It is believed she was the longest survivor wene withdrawn and kept at swindon as with 1003/1006 atleast 4 yrs before finally being cut.D1011 also donated some parts to D1015 ie valances after damage was found on hers.

Western memories.

Thks phill.

It was a choice between 5530 or 5580 but the pics i have of 5580 show her with double emblems and numbers behind the cab doors and taken at old oak.

I have also noticed in the photos that i have not got rid of all rivits on the cabs although i did leave them on the body as did,nt want a full repaint.I have also give her sprung buffers but Bachmann ones.

My hymeks are not shaking in there boots thou as this is the only class 31 planned.

Its a shame thou that Hornby have nether modeled a pre-tops blue version in with the new green one due out.

Also having decided to take a note from model rail i have decided to remove and relace the roof handrails on the 31.

Taken a break from this more photos taken.

The shots with the hymeks and the 31 speak out as the hymeks saying your out numbered and your not having are jobs yet.

I believe the hymeks were sadly missed by WR staff and altleast could handle the paddington-herefords with ease.

The 31s brought in to replace them were deemed under powered.

Sadly i nether got to see a hymek turn a wheel on BR metals but did see 16 of the class all around and withdrawn at old oak common on my 1st visit.

A very pleasing looking loco for its size and like all hydraulics hung in my memories but sadly missed.

They were for shaw smokey/noisy good looking and differant and the Heljan version is one of there if not only there best model which needs very little work on it.

Next project and one i have been meaning to do before the 31 came along is to get warship D821 greyhound into the correct livery.

Having already the black plates she is green, the wrong livery for my era as being repainted maroon 1966 so will have to repaint her to the correct period.

I made a start on her 2nite all though run out of time and proper light. She is however taking more than one coat.

As mentioned i planned to repaint warship D821 greyhound out of green into maroon.

At the second attempt due to not placing the numbers in the correct position i also had problems with the paint.I decided to weather her as to hide some of these mistakes.

A few more photos added.

Pls note yes in maroon D1062 is kepted in ex works condition.

Cheers Richard

More excellent stuff!

When we get our phase 2 done we'll send you some hymeks and Warships up on the Londons.

When 31s were tried on the Worcester line they needed a pilot to Moreton In Marsh on at least 2 occasions on the heavy up morning train - a 25 and a 37 apparently! Interesting workings for us to run - as is D6336 on a down train in the opposite direction

Kind regards

Phil

Cheers guys.

yes quite pleased with how the 31 has turned out.

What iam not happy with is the backscenes behind her in the photo earlier in the forum. These need redoing as they are from my nse days with the eurotunnel depot still in situ and need changing to just a common scene with bushes/trees.A bit of a thorn thou as not easily reached to do.

The layout also needs a bit of a clean as got bits and bobs all over it.

Then a cple of up to date videos can be done.

Ah yes - perhaps you need a Wormwood Scrubs backscene?

Mind you there isnt much showing above your buildings - if the skyline is low then its really only the sky and treetops that show
