cromptonnut
Struggling to find a supplier for a small trailer to tow behind a 1:43 car. Happy to build a kit. Something along the lines of this thing: http://media-s3.viva-images.com/vivastreet_gb/clad/d4/6/40989918/large/1.jpg?dt=32c74a8a31adedad6c890a28a63d9c99 Anyone have any pointers please? RMweb Premium Mike Bellamy Posted December 25, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 25, 2012 If nothing else turns up, then Cararama do a military trailer with a Jeep - one example here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cararama-Military-1-43-Willys-Jeep-CJ2A-Trailer-British-Army-WW2-/150926822431?pt=UK_ToysGames_DiecastVehicles_DiecastVehicles_JN&hash=item2323f08c1f
cromptonnut
That would do the job and at that price it might be worth getting and reselling the Jeep separately.
woodyfox
How about a scratch build with a an axle and plasticard?
cromptonnut
A scratch-build may be a possibility - I've found axles online and I'm sure a body won't be difficult but I'm not convinced about my ability to make the A-frame and towhitch properly. Hesperus
Cararama did some sets with classic cars and old caravans which might be a good starting point, though a swift look on the evil bay shows them at £20+ when you can get one of those jeeps for a fiver. BrushType4
Cromptonnut, if you can find some suitable wheels then I think this is an ideal project to hone your modelling skills on. Just need a couple pounds worth of evergreen or slaters plasticard. Go for it!
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted December 26, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 26, 2012 I work in OO scale but the Cararama caravans provide a very good chassis. They do a couple of very small caravans in O scale. If you have a nearby swap meet go along there to see what you can find.
woodyfox
You could even try Lego wheels with wire for an axle. Some wheels from Lego aren't too bad for 7mm scale. For the towbar/hook-up you could use wire and a 1:148 scale wheel. Wire would also make up an A frame quite easily.
Rob Pulham
How about this for £3.50? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TEAMSTERS-1-43-DIECAST-CAR-CARAVAN-VEHICLES-TOY-WITH-OPENING-DOORS-PLASTIC-TOY-/360534909710?pt=UK_ToysGames_DiecastVehicles_DiecastVehicles_JN&var=&hash=item53f18e230e Apologies for the long link but I couldn't get the link option to work
cromptonnut
The caravan and vehicle are far too modern for my layout - but for that price, it's worth dismantling for the bits - thanks. One on its way for some experimenting I was thinking more of a single axle trailer but I'm sure that the chassis, suitably trimmed and a bit of plasticard bodging for the sides will do the job.
