Bristol O gauge Show - 20 January 2013

Just wondered who is planning on going.  Have just obtained permission from SWMBO to attend but she's coming along to help me not spend money I don't have like I did at Reading...

A quick tip for those like me travelling from a distance - I just looked at the Travelodge website for rooms for the saturday night and the nearest - Cribbs Causeway (west of Bristol) at 2 miles is £39 per night, and the two central Bristol ones are £44 and £47 a night (4 miles away).

However, Bristol Severn View at just 7 miles away (right next to the old Severn Bridge at Aust services)  currently has rooms for £15 a night - well it did at the time of posting, and now has one less.

I thought that might be useful as obviously 3 miles of driving v £24 extra for the room (unless you're driving a tank) gives you extra modelling tokens to enjoy on the day.

Assuming the date, times and location are correct, then I suppose the only key thing that is really useful is the layouts and traders lists.

Any particular reason why the website isn't up to date with just a couple of weeks to go before the show?

The info I have as an exhibitor is that the show is open from 10am - 4pm Sunday 20th Jan. The venue is the same as before, The UWE Exhibition and Conference Centre, BS34 8QZ.

The website Traders list looks pretty up to date, but the layouts list is not at all complete.

I have no idea why the Bristol Group don't update their website; it is not a Guild Show, although it is supported by the Guild.

Best,

John

I don't mind so much about the layouts list, I'm fairly new to O gauge and this is my first 'proper' O gauge specific show so I don't know what layouts there are on the circuit that make a show worth visiting - although I would guess most are pretty good to be invited to a specialist show.

I might call the phone number on the ticket booking form tomorrow and ask - although I can't "pre book" as I don't have a chequebook any more.

I'll be there, and it's a good show in a great venue - good spacing, temperature, light etc. I'll have the completed cargowaggon with me on the demu stand. I'll take it for a trip round the test track at some point.

Cheers

Tom

For info from a Bristolian and former UWE employee ( the exhibition will be in their conference centre), the nearest hotel is Holiday inn, Filton and easily in walking distance- just checked the rooms at £56 for a twin. The hotel is very good, and the local curry house is the Raj Mahal in Stapleton - also excellent. The Holiday inn express, just down the road will be slightly cheaper, and again easy walking distance.

This is fast becoming one of my favourite shows of the year. Plenty of space between the exhibits and good modelling on display. If the standards of the last couple of shows are kept up, it should be well worth the trip

Thoroughly looking forward to it!

I am demoing there so if anyone wants to see any particular model make a request here and I will bring it along. Needless to say I will have all the latest builds and Heljan locos with me.

Hi Brian,

Not 100% certain I can make it, but any chance you could find room for your JLTRT 33?

Thanks, Rich

If you want Rich but it's still not finished. It is a pre-production model so a couple of bits might get altered on a production model. I am sure Pete has not fully finished a model yet either.

Ok had a nice chat with the "evening" contact guy who explained the traders list is correct but it's just the date is wrong, and the layouts list is ok except Courtover Town has had to pull out, and several other layouts had taken its place but he didn't have details yet.

The website problems are basically down to the person who looks after their website - rather than the group's fault so all is well.

Edited 3/1/13 as duff information was received by me and inadvertently passed on here.

I too will be there all being well. From my experience of the show over the last few years it will be a good one. The venue is great and all the usual traders should be there. For anyone new to O gauge the show is a must. BE THERE.
