AJon30
Slapped some paint on today. I always seem to have a problem that Humbrol enamal matt always come out gloss. Will put some dullcote on later when it is fully hard. Glazing and some interior detail for another day. Happy with the outcome Rgds Andrew
AJon30
Well, here we have the Stodden fleet all lined up, wheels cleaned and ready to do their service at Risex tomorrow. Here's the latest addition to the fleet, still a bit of fettling to be done on the chassis, but coming along. Bought off Ebay as a spur fo the moment buy, is the Alphagrafix kit of an Irish 0-4-2T. Had not been put together that well, started to sort some of the problems out and the next thing I knew I had a whole pile of bits (would have been easier to just buy the kit, yes I know.....). Anyway its gone back together reasonably well. Hopefully should have it running at GOG Kettering in March. Stodden has a busy time coming up Risex, Dereham, Kettering (its 50th outing - not bad in 48 months!) possibly Swindon, Pitstone, TrainWest and finally Farnham on 1st May. Hope t see you at a show.# Rgds Andrew
AJon30
Hello. Well Kettering is tomorrow, so have been giving Great Barford a work out as it was a bit fickle at Risex (but seeing as it had not been out for a number of months not surprising). Dereham last week end was a good show thanks for inviting us. The Irish 0-4-2T is (hopefully) ready for iits nitial outing tomorrow. The chassis has been painted but not sure if cylinders would have looked better in green. Still a little noisy (but it now goes in the same way as all the rest!) . Some work was done on the Gas Works at Kimbolton, mainly to repair the Gas Holder structure. This was made in plastic strip but I think it is too vunerable and may have the re-make it in metal. It is packed away now but I will take some photos tomorrow. Rgds Andrew Edited March 3, 2017 by AJon30
AJon30
Busy day At Kettering - thanks to all the nice comments we received - 50 up and looking forward to the next 50! Here, as promised is a photograph of the work completed on the Gas Works. The framework for the holder wa repaired and painted, the ground surface was made up and a charging point for the fireless loco was installed. Next few weeks I am helping out with other layouts at East Anglian Show, Nottingham and Alexandra Palace, then the SHLR is out at Pitstone and TrainWest in April. RMweb Premium Dava Posted March 4, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 4, 2017 It was good to see the expanded SHLR at Kettering, thanks! Dava
AJon30
Thanks Dava. I do like exhibiting the long version, although I am surprised by the number of people who don't "get" the concept and ask if these are 2 separate layouts (because of the scenic "break" between Great Barford & Pertenhall and Swineshead). I explain it away that Pertenhall & Kimbolton are quite close so that is why they are in one scene while Great Barford is well down the line. AJon30
Gosh, where does the time go? Last time I posted was after the GOG show at Kettering. the next few weekends were helping ot with other layouts at the East Anglain show, Nottingham and Ally Pally. Unfortunately at Ally Pally I started to develope a very painful ankle. I struggled on as I was showing at Beacon Rail, Pitstone, but then ended up in hospital, which meant I had to cancel my showing at TrainWest, which I was really annoyed about. On the mend now, showed the short version at our O gauge show in Hitchin (filling in for a layout taht dropped out) and yesteday in Farnham. So not a lot done to the layout (or other modelling activities) however I have fitted a lock to the sector plate which makes it easier to align. Here are some shots from yesterday, with Ruth - the irish 0-4-2T - the Tram engine - re-motored LIMA power bogie - and Queen Mary shunting the coal yard. This weekend out at South West Herts show in Watford. Rgds Andrew
irishmail
Looking good Andrew, This posting has come just at the right time, as I am currently in the process of changing the fiddle yard on my Campbell Riverside (AKA Swansea Riverside) from cassettes to a sector plate and was looking for ideas for alignment. Say hi to the lads at the Luton MRC from me. Regards John
jetmorgan
Very belated I know but I did enjoy Stodden Hundred at the 2016 London Fest of Model railways. Bags of idea and inspiration...I just need to finish all my other projects first!!!
AJon30
Thanks Jetmorgan That was the 19ft version (shame with all their space they could easily have had the long one!) Glad you liked it. Part of the joy of exhibiting is the exchange of idea's and different ways of doing things - I spent a long time looking before starting the SHLR - not everything has worked out but I am pleased how it has turned out. Other projects - don't get me started on my list! Rgds Andrew
AJon30
Hello all. Just some minor touching up since SW Herts show. Off the Isle of Wight this weekend for the Sandown Railway Enthusiasts Club show. Rgds Andrew
Lodekka
Hello all. Just some minor touching up since SW Herts show. Off the Isle of Wight this weekend for the Sandown Railway Enthusiasts Club show. Rgds Andrew Very good record of progress over the layout development... If only I had the time and space...no hum Wots all this Docklands stuff then? AJon30
Hello Nigel. As you well know Dockslands in a DCC East end docks layout that I am building. How's the garden rallway coming along? Rgds Andrew
AJon30
Sorry for the delay in updates, one problem is I keep taking my camera to shows and then forgetting to take any pictures! This year has already been busy with shows with all the club layouts. SHLR has been to 2 shows in its full 34ft form - Erith and Tonbridge. Here are some pictures from yesterday at Tonbridge At Great Barford work on the outstanding building items has been progressing slowly. The platform has been completed and the station building is coming along. A visitor to Great Barford was a Ruston provided by Nigel Adams, here seen with one of the stalwart Ixion Hudswell Clarkes. In the background can be seen a short LNER freight arriving Station building (store room & lamp room) nearly finished AT Pertenhall Queen Mary was engaged in its normal shunting duties The normal loco for the gas works in Kimbolton is the fireless, but that has not been running properly (diagnosed as a broken wire on a plunger pick-up) so a new addition, No,16, a re-liveried Fowler diesel shunter was employed on that duty. Finished in SR Malachite Green in anticipation of an order from the SR that never came, it has been leased to the SHLR. Rgds Andrew
jetmorgan
Can I say that it was great seeing Stodden Hundred again and I got a few nice pics...the others were a bit out of focus, really need a new camera. It was also nice not to have a barrier in front of the layout as you could really get up close to see the great modelling. Obviously yes it can be very scary when very little fingers start appearing and holding onto the baseboard edge. Firmly on my favourite layouts list. AJon30
Thanks Jetmorgan We were offered barriers but declined them. Just have to keep a weather eye open for what's going on (and some adults are just as guilty with the finger-poken). Rgds Andrew
Geoff Endacott
Stodden Hundred Light Railway will be appearing at Trainwest 2019 in Corsham, Wiltshire, on 13 & 14 April. www.trainwest.org.uk Geoff Endacott
south_tyne
Nice for this to crop up again andto be reminded of the Stodden Hill Light Railway. I've always admired the layout on here and in print and would love to see it in real life one day. As I have said before, I absolutely love the shots of the sidings at Pertenhall - lovely setting and atmosphere.
AJon30
Hello everyone. Sorry for the long absence from posting but hope to try and be a little more regular. The exhibition circuit keeps me busy and the layout has now been exhibited 82 times! The full layout will be appearing at Warley this coming weekend (Stand E19). Hope to see you there. Watched James May's program on Hornby (Big Trouble in Model Britain ep 1) and was gob-smacked to see some filming of SHLR when it was shown at the Great Electric Train show last year - some set-up shots and some nice operating shots - looked quite good! Other projects on the go include "Docklands" my DCC O gauge Poplar docks layout and experiments with battery & radio control both in O and 16mm scales. AJon30
First show of the year - Maidenhead on Saturday 4th. Surprisingly busy. Shown there was the 9ft version Out with Docklands for the next couple of weeks at CMRA Stevenage and Brambleton, Harpenden then the full version of Stodden at GOG Bristol and then the 19ft versions at Alton & Bournemouth, so a busy start to the year!
AJon30
The full 34 foot version was at the Bristol O Gauge Group yesterday. After WArley last year, I resolved to replace all the Fulgurex point motors with Servo's. Managed to get the change over finished on Thursday before the show. Apart from a couple of operating wires which were a little long all went well. Here's a batch of photo's taken at the show The previous couple of weeks I was out with Docklands, my BR (E) DCC layout, which started as a test track but has grown Off to Alton next weekend and then Bournemouth. Guest Isambarduk
That all looks great, Andrew. I am really sorry that my unexpected current condition prevented me, at a late stage, from being there to join in and to take you up on your kind offer of running powers on SHLR for my Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0ST and 0-6-0DM. AJon30
Hello David. Hope you are on the mend. There will opportunities in the future as we seem to be coming somewhat of a fixture at BOGG, with Harpenden East next year, Central Works the year after etc, etc. Once we get a foot in the door it is difficult to keep the LOGGIES out!
