Hamfisted
Can anyone point me in the direction of a source of acceptable GWR station area kits. I'm not good at scratch building and have tried modifying other proprietory efforts with only modest success.
RMweb Premium cnw6847 Posted December 30, 2009 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 30, 2009 Ratio do a number of good GWR building kits. I am not sure if they have a website but model shops will list their products. Coopercraft also do some useful bits http://www.cooper-craft.co.uk/index.html
kandc_au
http://www.peco-uk.com/Products/ratio.htm I do believe that there are also card models of GWR stations but cannot remember the brand. Khris
RMweb Gold 57xx Posted December 30, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 30, 2009 I do believe that there are also card models of GWR stations but cannot remember the brand. It might be/have been Bilteezi. I had a card kit of Lambourn station many years ago (OO gauge). The Ratio kit is based on the Ashburton/Mortenhampstead buildings, they also do a "matching" train shed (that requires work to make it fit properly). What scale are you modelling in? Coombe Barton
The Antics website gives illustrations of the Ratio models. http://www.railway-m....uk/1343_1.html Edit although the way the engine shed is mounted I can't see how the doors would close. http://www.railway-models.co.uk/1343_1_1039747.html
Karhedron
Churchward models do some nice kits. http://www.modelexmodelrailways.co.uk/ It is also worth browsing through the Hornby and Bachmann pre-painted resin-ranges. These vary from year-to-year but I am pretty sure they have included some GWR outline buildings. Station buildings and signal boxes seem easy but engine sheds and goods sheds may require a bit more searching.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted December 30, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 30, 2009 It might be/have been Bilteezi. I had a card kit of Lambourn station many years ago (OO gauge). The Ratio kit is based on the Ashburton/Mortenhampstead buildings, they also do a "matching" train shed (that requires work to make it fit properly). What scale are you modelling in? The Ratio station building kit is actually a fairly accurate model of the building on the Up platform at Castle Cary. Technically it was originally a Wilts & Weymouth Railway building but in effect that is really little different from GWR and it was probably designed by Brereton who also did work for the GWR under Brunel's direction. Coombe Barton
Churchward are now incorporated into Modelex http://www.modelexmodelrailways.co.uk/ Prototype kits are marketed by http://www.ukmodelsh...del_Accessories And Scalelink do a brass kit of Bovey Tracey Station builiding http://scalelink.co.uk/acatalog/Kits___Scale_1_76__OO_HO____Kits.html
RMweb Gold 57xx Posted December 30, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 30, 2009 The Ratio kit is a model of Castle Cary..... Aaah thank's for the correction. That'll explain why I thought it was a rather poor rendering of Ashburton! My wrong assumption was down to the train shed appearing to match the one at Ashburton.
