As mentioned above, they made it to Preston on a booked working, I think it was a Wednesdays only Parcels diagram, usually about 3 vans right upto 1989 maybe slightly later? Also 2 Railfreight Coal liveried 26's made it to Warrington Arpley on a Steel Train in 1989 http://www.flickr.com/photos/jezgould/6486352637/

Cheers

I seem to remember that two worked to Clitheroe once on the Ribble Cement train to/ from Gunnie (Glasgow).

I also remember one very cold and snowy February night in 1986 the DMU I was on from Carlisle to Newcastle failed at Carlisle and the DMU was hauled all the way to Newcastle by a 26!

26038 made it down to Hereford under its own power in May 1991 for the open day. 26043 and 26007, I believe with 26001 for the open day there, made it down to Crewe in Oct 1992 before working the "Wye Knot" railtour back to Carlisle via the WCML, Blackburn and the S&C.

Bit of a tenuous one this. We had 26036 come to Bescot for our Open Day, I believe hauled DIT to and from. It was however used all Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday to shunt the wagons from the Up yard onto the Up Goods Line.

Therefore it did actually work in service at Bescot and was cooling down after it's night's work when photographed here ;

We should of course recall that all the class 26s were built at Smethwick and ran light to their respective depots after commissioning. Also, the first class 26s were of course alocated to the GN depots in London prior to moving to Scotland.
