The Shed - alterations to an 0 gauge micro layout

Hi Rob,

The shed is looking great again :)

I agree with continuing ballasting onto the sector plate...
As you note, it takes away an unsightly "edge" between ballasted and unballasted areas

I sometimes continue a little bit of greenery onto the sector plate too......

Glad to see it's all up & running again

Thanks Marc, I am really pleased to have it fully operational at last and the work was really quite painless.

In the past I have used part of a building just inside the fidddle yard to continue the scenics across the break between the scenic board and the FY. It was very effective but would only work with a single road FY or a cassette system, no good if you have a traverser or anything slightly complex, although I suppose you could have a short length of single line before entering the main FY.

Hi again Rob,

Yes, it's a nice felling when you have made effective repairs,
especially if you thought you may end up ruining previous hard work....

And yes, using buildings in that way is another useful "trick" or illusion
It's usually a case of drawing the eye away from any edges...
and there are several ways of achieving this

Appologies for posting this pic here (I know, it's on my thread anyway!)
But it's my mirror "trick" mounted onto the sector plate,

to disguise the fiddle entrance

Just to the right, you can see how I have painted the fiddle yard with the same tones as the layout -

demonstrating how this method helps eliminate those "edges" you get between scenic and non-scenic areas

Anyhow, it's looking good Rob
I'm glad you made the mod in the end...

Marc

Weather was looking good today so thought I would slip down to the shed and get some photos, even managed to get into the shed and get a picture looking out. Hope you enjoy them, I rather like the one looking along the track towards the shed.

Superb Rob!

Just shows what can be achieved in 7mm, without needing loads of space (or stock)!

Or a lot of money, although anyone looking at my locos might disagree. But then almost my entire stock has been on show here and on Osney.

Rob

If the money spent on your pannier tanks is in proportion to the enjoyment you (and other rmweb members)

derive from it - then it is money well spent sir!

I've always said, in O gauge, you feel less need to buy everything in sight

and anyhow, O seems to hold its' value better than most other scales....

Those last shots are absolutely cracking Rob :)

How on earth did you manage to get your camera into the shed?

I bet the foreman wasn't happy ;)

Hi Andrew

Sorry I missed your post, I haven't been looking at this thread very often!  Appreciate your comments and must look up Lydney as I don't think I have seen any photos.

Just saw the shed come up in a recent posting
Glad I looked back over the thread - it's a real cracker, and I'd almost forgotten just how good it is

I'm now thinking that once my latest OO project is completed (if ever LOL)
I might be tempted to do something very similar
....possibly set in the snow!

Great to meet you the other week BTW Rob

Cheers again

Hi Marc

It was good to catch up with you at last and have a chat. Should see you again at Barnstaple in July. Glad I have given you some ideas but a snowy shed scene might look more dirty grey than white!

Cheers Rob

Hi Steve

I am struggling with new software at the moment but when I learn to use it properly without the need for a stream of expletives I will see what I can do !!

Yes, I'm looking forward to Barnstaple and catching up with yourself, Darren, Mudmagnet & Ray

I was thinking about building a diorama, set in the snow sometime back

but I had thought about building that in OO

My good pal Brian T has beaten me to it, with his superb Canadian remote mountain refueling point, in HO scale

I pondered doing this in O gauge, set in the snow

and had thought about keeping the stock itself "snow-free"

...."well the snow has obviously melted, due to being moved about.......hasn't it!" - would be my explanation

On seeing a couple of old Lima, and badly built kit wagons going fairly cheaply at a recent show

I thought about parking a couple of less used wagons at the back of the scene,

and covering these with snow - as on snow-clad layouts, you don't often see such a cameo

.... all in good time though

Time, where can I buy some of that? lol

Re it looking "dirty grey, rather than white" - that was exactly what I had imagined, trust me ;)

Cheers again

Just had to read this thread - and the one with your 3 (now 4?) layouts in from start to finish. Really enjoyed it love the minimalist modelling

- not operation but atmosphere.

The quay layout tons of atmosphere, neatly sidestepping the 'expensive' bit of O gauge - ie the loco ;)

Keep the pics coming  :) :)

Have just been checking out the layout, making sure everything is as it should be, which it appears to be , so everything is ready for loading into the car in preparation for our trip to Barnstaple for the 25th. Looking forward to the show and meeting old friends. Please make yourself known if you are there, operating this 'complex' layout still gives me time to chat!

I'm trying to persuade 2manyspams (Chris) to bring his 02 to a run, if ok with you ......
