RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted April 25, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 25, 2013 In this topic I'll post photos of the more routine workings around the Saxmundham area, the flasks have their own topic and this will be updated presently. I like to get out at lunch and take a wander , typically capturing the trains which pass at Saxmundham at 12:53. eastwestdivide
On the first photo, I can read Bittern Line on the big sticker centrally, but what's the little sticker top left above the window? Also visible on some of the others.

It's a bike symbol - I'll post it tonight when I get home, I've only got resized jpgs here and the quality is too poor to enlarge,

trisonic
What!? You know that East Anglia is supposed to be as flat as a pancake and just as interesting! (Nice one(s), Dave!) Best, Pete.
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted April 28, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 28, 2013 The next day I ventured to the foot crossing visible in the last picture. I remember the wind was bitter, taking my gloves off meant really sore fingers - this was late March and the weather was still grim 22 March 2013, Lowes Hill foot crossing, Saxmundham 156422 on 2D81, 12:07, Lowesoft - Ipswich 156417 on 2D78, 12:17, Ipswich - Lowesoft
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted April 28, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 28, 2013 04 April found me in Botany Wood, this is just South of Saxmundham, with a foot crossing. The mottled effect is caused by the rain - it was chucking it down. 156416, Saint Edmund, on 2D78, 12:17, Ipswich - Lowesoft 156402 on 2D81, 12:07, Lowesoft - Ipswich

RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted April 29, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 29, 2013 Dave, Really great photos and I envy you being able to take and post them (weather notwithstanding). Peter Thanks Peter, I work on the principle that today is tomorrows history, who knows what changes sneak up on us and things are gone forever. When I was photographing blue stuff I ignored DMUs - having made that mistake once, I now photograph everything, even the mundane.
trisonic
Totally agree with you, Dave. it is the mundane that there are now not enough photos of! I learned my lesson with the early EMU's on the ex.GER suburbans. Best, Pete.
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted April 29, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 29, 2013 I remember doing my first trip in a 1st gen DMu sitting just behond the driver with the blinds up. The Line was still double track all the way back then and was amazed how hilly it was. I also wish I had taken more photos especially of the roof at Lowestoft. Never really expected BR to be allowed to take it down. Ian
