westerner
mikes models were good for GER bits and pieces , Now sold by Holt Models (in Swansea I think) Not sure how I missed this one. Although I model BR (WR) I used to travel through Gt. Dunmow quite regularly when I was working. I'll follow with interest.
David C
I'm not an expert on the GER (modelling GWR at the moment), but I think the buildings in the photos are a standard GER design known as the 1860s type ( because they were built in that period!) There were drawings in an early MRJ - I'll try to look out for them if you are interested. Must say, modelling the GER is becoming more attractive with Hornby's recent announcements .... David C Think it was called the 1865 type. Seems to be common in that area. So far, looking around the various stations I have come up with a list of 27 locations that appear to use the same basic design. Although not all exactly the same, they all have the same style. Saffron Waldon Bartlow Haverhill Stoke-By-Clare Clare Glemsford Linton Sturmer Cavendish Long Melford Sudbury Takeley Easton Lodge Felsted Rayne Pampisford Lavenham Welnetham Cockfield Epping Ongar Theydon Bois North Weald Blake Hall Braintree Lyston level Crossing (Keepers Cottage?) If any body knows of any others, I'll add them to the list. Maybe make another thread out if? Dave
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted February 1, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 1, 2014 It's a most attractive type of station building. A good candidate for a ready-to-plant model given how common they were and the suitable locos etc to go with them.

Shadow
Haven't done much of late. Work and personal life getting in the way. However, today had a play with some ballasting and weathering. Made up a test board they other day, stuck some track down and tried various ballasts. Fine cork and Fine Grey granite. Fine cork was a pain to use. It kept floating on the PVA/water mix and clumping together! The fine grey stone was much easier. Then a practice at weathering. Did an overall spray with a general colour of brown wash, but turned out a bit to yellow. (Burnt Sienna and Cadmium Yellow) Added some black to tone it down. Then added some light grey wash to highlight the grain on the sleepers. This was dabbed on with a brush and then wiped across the tops with my finger. Then painted the rail side with a mix of Burnt Sienna and Black, (sort of chocolate/red brown). Quite pleased with the results.

PGC
It was proposed under the Light Railways act, but like many such proposals it wasn't proceeded with. IIRC it would have either meant moving the station at Ongar or the local cemetery. There was a layout based on the proposed line that appeared in a model railway magazine some years ago. It's called "Blackwells Brewery Company" and is an EM layout owned by the Mid Essex MRC. And next year I believe it's due to appear at Railex. I wonder how I know!!!!!!!! Shadow
Been busy practising tree building the last few days. I grew some Sea foam last year, and decided that it was about time that I tried my hand at making some trees. I want to add a line of trees between the track and the backscene. The one on the left in the photo was done first. I thickened the trunk out using PVA/Polyfilla/water mix, and then when dry, coating a mixture of foliage. I didn't spray the seafoam, but now wished I had as the branches looks a bit pale in colour. With the other ones, I thickened the trunk with the PVA/Polfilla mix and then spray painted them with a dark grey colour. Some are still to be coated with foliage. May try using poly fibre to flesh out the canopy a bit. Will test it on a spare bit first.

Shadow
Well finally got some time to re-paint. Thing that it looks a lot better now. Still got a bit of track that needs to have the sides rusted up, but looks ok so-far.

Shadow
New toy arrived, the "ACME Grass'O'Matic" Time to start those scenics. A few practice pieces, Green static as supplied with applicator, Just a bit to green I think! This is a mixture of War World Scenics 4mm Autumn & 6mm Straw on left (50/50 mix), plain WWS 4mm Autumn in middle, and Bush 7110 Dark Green (4mm) on the right. The last colours look a bit softer with the eye, camera/lighting altering the colour a bit. Will try natural light photo tomorrow, (if not raining!) RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted August 9, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 9, 2014 Hi Dave, The natural light makes a huge difference to the appearance I still agree that the last one with the 50/50 mix is the best. It looks very real in the sunlight. Gary
