Now..I wonder whether the XK140 was the same wreck of a shell with chassis plate I witnessed two old buffers getting forklifted onto their trailer at Southampton docks, when I went to fetch my Dellow  a year last November....from a similar container?

The shipping agents' compound is a joy to behold when it comes to container opening time!! So many Ferraris , SS100's, bikes & Bentleys.....too many to shake a stick at!!

It's an XK150 at Stoneleigh Alastair... was it definitley a 140 you saw at S'oton...? From memory the 140s were more slender than the later slightly bloated look of the 150, closer in appearence to the 120. I've always thought the 150 looks like a squatter two door version of the Mk2 saloon.

and all the better for it. I think the XK150 FHC is one of the all-time classics. The 120's and 140's rooflines look wrong to me, but I agree with you about the roadsters and DHC's looking more slender-especially the first 120's with the spats.

I do think the first XJ6's were the best-looking of the lot. My friend's Dad hated his company one after his 420G-altogether too modern for him.

What did I spend my coughers on..? A genuine Jaguar tax disc holder that's what!

But you don't get a tax disc anymore....  :tomato:

What with your beautiful car & now that lovely blue one, why am I getting the urge to flog the modern SUV & get a classic Jag? Wonder what 'er indoors (Arfur D had a Jag too, didn't he?!) would say to that idea? On second thoughts, I can guess....!!

Already got one for the Cooper S, a nice finishing touch - will be ordering one for the Jag next, to expire 'FEB 75' as it was first reg'd on 1/3/74. For an extra quid or two you can get the right issue-ing post office stamp as well ;) .

You can get reproductions of various years to stick in, my dad is buying some for the MG's for the year they were first registered

I bought one of the right age off eBay for the princely sum of two pounds and twenty pence.. It's actually for an A-reg Porsche, but the text is typewritten so small, it's barely noticeable.

I am no Jagwar expert....and to be fair, the Jagwar I saw at Soton was only identifiable as an XK, FHC, and my poor memory as to what said buffers told me.  It had no wheels, not a lot from circa 2 foot downwards, no glass....being just the remains of a shell...with that all-important chassis plate!  In other words, if displayed on this forum, it would have drawn huge praise for the rust and corrosion modelled!

I'd love to display the tax disc for the year my GPO van was registered (1967 E), but alas I cannot find a real/repro (or even a picture) of a Crown Exemption Disc anywhere ;-{  So she'll be wearing her last disc.....

Only recently discovered this thread (yes, living under a rock) and it's making fascinating reading. Very tempted by a Mk3 Cortina for sale locally but as a move is likely during 2015, lack of a garage is the only thing putting me off. These might be of some interest... all taken by my son during the 2013 and 2014 classic car rallies here in Sheringham. Some were taken on the High Street, the lower end of which is shut to traffic one day each year, the rest over at Holt. First of all, there's a bit of a Mini theme going on... Some classic Fords later.

I came over all Sweeney for a minute ! This old Hillman Hunter is sitting in a yard not to far from Manchester Piccadilly

This Rover 800 police car was parked just off Piccadilly Gardens last year, a big film/TV unit was nearby. Local to me at the moment is a Lancia Fulvia sharing space with a Citroen CX sadly the family got rid their DS but I did get a picture.

I've got to shrink the DS piccy to fit, Just at the top of Fairfield St behind Manchester Piccadilly is another compound with some interesting stuff rotting away, several Jags including a Mk10/420G a pretty rotten Silver Spur and some old Mercs. Unfortunately getting pictures is awkward as the street corners is a haunt for ladies of a certain profession!

I'll go. Unless by "a certain profession" you mean school dinnerladies. I'm terrified of them.

Steve (Londontram) - I may go this year. It's in May, isn't it? Depends which weekend as two family birthdays that month. Need to check.

Not my cup of tea at all, but it's certainly cheeky!
