RJS1977
Had a visit today from a friend who is into pre-war BMWs. We went to check up on two that are hidden away in Suffolk, slowly deteriorating because the owner won't do anything with them or sell them to someone that will. His collection includes several other pre WW2 cars suffering the same fate. Why do people do it? I believe one of the Peugeot convertibles driven by Peter Falk in Columbo (only four were ever exported to the USA IIRC, and they all ended up in either the original or 1990s episodes!) suffered a similar fate. I have an idea that "kit"was what my Heaton ( motor bike) son was suggesting for my wife's failed MGBGT to be transformed into. She bought an MX 5 instead for her commute - confident in the knowledge I could never fit Yes it is an MGB based kit. The tooling has passed through several owners. I went to see the factory when it was in Rotherham in about 1995 with a view to buying one.

Yes it's MGB based although quite a few got Rover V8 power.

RJS1977
I should think the E-types, Astons and Ferraris at least may well be economically viable to restore (some of the Astons didn't look too bad apart from the layers of dust).

Oddly enough, if auction results over the last year or so are any indication, the unrestored heaps like these seem to fetch more money than restored or tidy examples. It seems quite bizarre. Rugd1022
As far as I'm aware the orange Miura was pulled from that garage and restored, and I agree on the other exotics being likely candidates for saving too. Something which has just struck me about the faded blue Aston in the third pic from the top - if you cover up the front of the car from the headlamps down you really can see the Italian influence of Touring's penmanship, the shape and proportions resemble several different Maserati Grand Tourers from the '50s. Strange how so many people think of the classic Aston Martins as being British through and through!

RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted June 29, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 29, 2017 Struggling to get pics of my phone and camera into suitable format to show here. Think I need to use my other (ancient) laptop which has different software. Anyway, a little puzzle for some of you who are knowledgeable about older stuff. What is this from, pictured in the attachment? It's a pretty rare car, only about 10 still in condition to run on public roads. I knew of it as a marque but only because I used to cast 1:76 & 1:148 models of them. Those models were not detailed enough to show this interesting feature.Engine.docx

The paradox of that "original an genuine" barn find is that, after restoration, there may also be very little of its original bits left!
