Bluemonkey presents....
Hello. I would like to pick some knowledgeable brains please. I have a small problem; I have attached a Crownline brass oil burning tender conversion kit a fully constructed white metal tender kit and want to remove it without damaging either kit. I have tried adding heat through a clean soldering iron and plenty of liquid flux without a result. Is there anything I can do to remove said items (intact)? Thank you in advance or any assistance. Cyberspice
Solder braid would soak up most of the solder which should make it easier to get apart even if it doesn't clean it all up.
R A Watson
How is the rest of the tender assembled? Glue or solder? If solder did you use normal or low melt, if low melt try putting the thing into a pan of hotish water this should release the low melt solder. Just make sure it is cooler than the melting point of the white metal. Wally

Pebbles
Just a thought, if you can remove solder at one spot insert a slim blade and working ahead with the iron move the blade along behind; this prevents the part you have separated becoming re-soldered. Hope this makes sense.
Xerces Fobe2
Solder suckers tools are designed primarily for due soldering joints on PCB's however than can be used to remove solder from other small areas http://www.sourcingmap.com/desoldering-pump-solder-sucker-solder-removal-tool-l34140e-p-15890.html XF
ozzyo
How was the tank attached to the tender, super glue, epoxy or solder? As all of them have different ways of the joint being brocken. OzzyO.
