MrWolf
Brilliant. Such a convincing scene. I've spent many an hour slogging up stairs like that laden down with 9 inch angle grinders, welding cables and those useless 110v halogen lamps! 2

Great to see these - it's a style and period of architecture you don't see modelled all that often. You've caught the atmosphere of these buildings very nicely. Reminds me of the pubs in Leicester we avoided in my teens, the names of which often appeared in the local paper after someone was convicted of ABH or something similar. Like a page out of Viz comic. Are you looking at my bird? Did you spill my pint? Etc, etc. A really great and atmospheric piece of modelling of something I don't think I've ever seen in miniature before. 3
monkeysarefun
NOt sure if 3D printing counts as scratchbuilding, but I started with a bunch of unused 0's and 1's on my laptop, and a bottle of grey goo - so you can't get materials more raw than that. This is an N scale model of a small church in Rossmore NSW. Modelled in Sketchup, intended for HO but I gave it a shot at printing at N scale to see what would happen , most of it seems to have worked ok. Printed in ABS-like resin on a Saturn 2 8K. 12 1

RMweb Gold rhnrhn Posted October 15, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 15, 2023 (edited) Rescued from a now defunct layout:- A fire station inspired by and based on elements of the Old Fire Station in Hockley, Birmingham. Structure built from card. Brickwork generated using the Beckenham and West Wickham Model Railway Club's Brick Generating Program (see Beckenham and West Wickham MRC (bwwmrc.co.uk)) - Brick colour taken from photograph of the original in Hockley. Stonework and Roof Slates from Scalescenes Crest created by mounting a photograph of the original on card and cutting round the edge with a scalpel. Fire Engine not scratchbuilt 🙂 but the Birmingham Fire Brigade Leyland TLM from Oxford. Edited October 15, 2023 by rhnrhn cropped images

MrWolf
Seconded, very neat and precise work there. The stone quoins look flawless, especially given how much of it there is and the painting of the rest of the stonework has been more than worth the time and effort. 1

RMweb Premium 70000 Britannia Posted October 25, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 25, 2023 (edited) Hello We see some excellent creations on this topic, invariably presenting finished work. My project will be to create a Swiss Cement Works; re-using as many leftover scrap components as I can to start with. Just as a teaser, this pile of bits dumped on my desk, plus a 1 metre pipe from a builders merchants, and a speculative plan, represent something embryonic. Construction progress will follow. Of course, plans can change! Update: 28.10.2023 An initial crude perspective of a basic Cement Works concept, just to indicate what is manageable in the space available. Note the use of the sophisticated modelling techniques :-). : Edited October 28, 2023 by 70000 Britannia progress update 6

RMweb Premium 70000 Britannia Posted October 29, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 29, 2023 (edited) OK, update on proposed Cement Works, for new layout AuSwiss, to be shown at Preston MRE in March. First target was to start on the Cyclone Preheater Tower, referred to above. Plastruct & Javis items were used to create the framework components. Next are decking and one of the many main tower pipes so far - the background screnshot shows the complexity of the real tower. The final structure will naturally be less complex, but lots more to do. So, here is the first stage skeleton of the project. Update 1st Nov 2023: taking shape - more to do: 4.11.2023 further development stage - but not yet complete. The next post will give a preliminary size perspective.
