Edwardian
I have, for a number of years, been building a model of Bath Queensquare and the last few miles of the S&D into the city in 2mm finescale, set in the 1920s. This picture shows my S&D 4-4-0 no. 70 coasting down the bank toward Midford with the down Manchester Diner (Pines from 1927). As can be seen an awful lot remains to be done, not least finishing and painting much of the stock! More pictures and details can be found on my Bath Queensquare thread , link in the signature below IMG_1296.JPG Jerry Good to see Queensquare taking its place on this thread. Wonderful stuff.
MickRalph
Fans of pre-grouping layouts will have a treat at Scalefour North in Wakefield next weekend, with 3 layouts on show. There are Cheddar S&DJR (Simon & Chris Challis); Witton Junction (NER by Ken Bateman, Dave Fenney & Ian Sadler); and the layout I will be helping to operate - Barry Luck's portrayal of Plumpton Station on the LBSCR in 1910. This layout features a fully-interlocked lever frame for points & signals (actually 2 frames, as there are releases on the main frame for the levers in the ground frame), bell block instruments, and Barry's superb scratchbuild locos. All these are in P4. I hope to see some of you at the show. Mick
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted March 27, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 27, 2017 Hi Mick, Wish I could make it to the show, however being within spitting distance of the Sussex coast its a bit far (google reckons 271 miles!!) However could I ask a favour of you?? Would you be able to get me some close up pictures of Barry Lucks E4 "Midhurst"?? I tried to get some when the layout was at Haywards Heath last year but none of them came out well!! The reason I ask is I am going to be chopping up my Bachmann E4 and backdating it, it will end up in Goods Green the same as Midhurst so some images would really help. Thanks in advance, Gary
MickRalph
I'll get Barry to pose the loco in a quiet moment and see how well I can capture it. I meant to add a link to Barry's blog site, where there are details of the layout (and his other lasyouts) and stock. Another of his previous layouts (Pulborough) is being refurbished and will be at the Bluebell Railway Model Railway Exhibition on 24th & 25th June. RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted March 27, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 27, 2017 Thanks Mick, I will have to try and get a pass from the misses for the Bluebell Railway Model Railway Exhibition as I haven't seen Pulborough before. Gary
Nearholmer
It's good! Can't recall where I saw it (Aylesbury or St Albans, maybe), but I remember being deeply impressed. If you've seen LBSCR-period photos of the station, it looks just like that, only smaller, and in colour. Plumpton I would like to see too, but Wakefield is still a long way from where I am, and I'm a good distance north of Gary! My not fond memory of the real Plumpton station is of lifting the lid on a cable trough, while looking for space to lay a further cable, and nearly getting a hold of a handful of adders. I should have known better, because snakes are well known to enjoy a good snooze, next a nice warm power cable. K
mikeandnel
Hi Gary Did you ever get your photo of E4 class 'Midhurst'? I have also built this and could send you a photo if necessary Michael
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted April 6, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 6, 2017 Hi Michael, Nothing has been sent to me yet no. Would love some detail shots of the loco if you can. Cheers, Gary
MickRalph
I promised to aend some photos - I did take some, but I am away until early next week, so may not be able to send them until I return home. Mick
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted April 6, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 6, 2017 Thank you Mick. That is much appreciated. Don't feel any need to rush getting them to me. The E4 is quite far from the top of my list at the moment, although I do hope to do something with it before the end of the year. Gary

Tricky
Hi all, I am a recent convert to RMWeb, and you will find my thread 'Midland in London' over in the 7mm section of the forum. It's Midland Railway c1907, set in either Poplar Docks or Birmingham (long story!). It's minimal size and nowhere near finished. Hope you like it. garethashenden
I'm not sure why I didn't think to post this here earlier, but here's my layout based on a small imagined goods yard on the North London Railway in the early part of the 20th century. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/111629-canonbury-goods-edwardian-nlr-in-p4/

Edwardian
York this year was thoroughly enjoyable. In terms of mainline pre-Grouping companies, there was but one layout (if The EM Highland layout Crioch made it, I failed to find it!), but what a layout! Peter Thomas's Eaton Gomery, exhibited by the Wigan and Wirral Clubs, if I am not mistaken. Eaton Gomery is a superb evocation of the Cambrian Railways in 4 mil. I thought of our own dear Chris N a lot, wishing he was there! The infrastructure is Cambrian, but the Great Western appears to share the line. At high level a LNWR station crosses the scene, but both LNW and Midland services are seen running through the Cambrian station. The scenic work is superb and packed with detail. It was satisfying to watch because it does not follow the usual loop format, but runs from cassette yard to cassette yard, with loco cassettes enabling tender engines to turn and 'run round', so each service can run both up and down. It put me in mind of my intended next project, also a fairly busy station on a cross-country single line route. In my case the intention is to base a layout on the GW-LNW joint lines on the Welsh Marches, with a bit of Midland (and, perhaps one day, a bit of Cambrian), thrown in. Anyway, usual apologies for the quality of the pictures, as my skills are not equal to exhibition lighting, but I hope this gives a taste of this delightful layout. Anyway, usual apologies for the quality of the pictures, as my skills are not equal to exhibition lighting, but I hope this gives a taste of this delightful layout. Absolutely beautiful. If you ignore the black engines, well I am sure they are invisible green really, not because they are not magnificent and give me something to aspire to, or that they just enthral me, I mean all locos should look like that, shouldn't they? No look at the people. The lady in white and maybe the man next to her, are Dapol figures, 1950s Dapol figures. She has appeared on my layout as a schoolgirl, but they have left her umbrella and given her a layered skirt. I cannot work out if her hat has been removed and a boater put in its place or if they have put a rim on her hat, something I have tried and not done very well because it is very difficult. I am not sure how they have done the hat of the man next to her but he started out as a railway worker carrying a lunchbox or similar, I think. Also there is a man on the platform with his legs apart with a top hat, again from the same Dapol set. I hope that they cut the top of his head and added a printed top hat as otherwise I am completely amazed as it is so good. I have tried that as well. As someone who, 1) has modified figures and 2) sees Dapol figures on other layouts and think, 'why not be more imaginative with them?!' I take my hat off to them, it is modelling of the highest standard in the details. I looked at the market scene behind, (that was my idea 20 years ago and maybe not realised for another 20), but gave up trying to see what else they have done. The rest of the layout is of the highest standard but \\i thought I would mention the figures in case no one noticed them.
