Or alternatively you could pop up to some of the various road-over-rail bridges between Swindon and Kemble and watch the start of the big three week summer blockade, which is the start of the re-doubling of that route. Lots of engineers trains and activity taking place (but stay safe of watching from a public road!).

Or, preferably, go to RailWells as well!

This will be the only chance this year to see Leighton Buzzard as built by Peter Denny.

We are very pleased to say that Stephen and Crispin Denny will both be with us all weekend as operators.

I just hope that the weather cools down a bit before the show as last time we took the layout out in high temperatures, it really wasn't very happy about it and let us know in no uncertain fashion!

Wells is a most enjoyable exhibition and well (bad pun - sorry) worth a visit.

Always a good show in the beautiful city of Wells. We are there with Tucking Mill and really looking forward to it.

Jerry

I shall be visiting, maybe be able to have a closer look at Tucking Mill than I did at Warley

All the best,

Dave.T

Quick question...

Looking at the details provided I'm assuming the car park to the rear of Bishops Palace WON'T be in place this year?

Er, you've got me worried now Rich!

The website does say "Follow the signs for the free show parking", but doesnt say its in a different place this time.

Dave.

It seems to say the car park is in the usual place Sunday, but not there at all Saturday.

Er, thats not how I read it Tim, To me its simply stating that Sunday is a quieter day than Saturday.

Quote below from the Show website;

Please note for free show parking follow the Railwells Parking signs. Should you not like crowds then Sunday is the better day to attend.

Cheers, Dave.

In the past the parking area has been at the end of Silver Street, see where the arrow is here: http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=355274&y=145596&z=120&sv=355274,145596&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=654&ax=355274&ay=145596&lm=0

My SatNav has been set up for this for several years and I hope that it coincides this year with the signs. Just why the 'RailWells' team is being so obscure about this I really don't know.

I note that the 'RailWells' website http://www.railwells.com/railway_show/ says that the list of exhibitors and traders is tentative and will be confirmed. The show starts tomorrow! Never mind, I'll be there on Sunday and the show is always one of the best in the calendar.

Blimey, what did we do in the old days, before sat nav, when we we had to rely on maps. Parking is where it always is, I don't think anyone is being obscure.

Jerry

I got lost!

I'm glad that the parking arrangements have been confirmed, thanks.

I quote from the Railwells supplement in Scalefour News

"Travel and Parking
Parking in Wells on a Saturday can be a problem, so if you visit on this day, take the bus, or find a parking space and walk, as
nothing is very far. Sunday is a quieter day both in the city and the exhibition; this year there will again be free parking for
those attending the exhibition. Just follow the Railwells parking signs"

Seems pretty confusing to me!

Went to Railwells today, 1st of all saw no signs for the free parking at all, we came in from Trowbridge direction and ended up parking near to the bus station, which was £5 all day.

After we'd sorted out one of our friends who needed the attention of South West Ambulance's finest, we managed to look round the show, not a bad show for the Finescale purist, but was a quite disappointed that there were no British Diesel/Electric layouts on show at all, in fact I can't remember seeing any Diesels at all on any layout, apart from the simplex Diesels on Q Dump Wipers.

The 2 Diesel/Electric layouts present are both Australian, one being the HO Broadford by Iain Hunter and the other one being the N Gauge South Walton by Simon Challis, they are both excellent layouts.

Regards

Neal.

You obviously missed the Hymek on Torre then!.

I was on car park duty from 10 until 11 and at least 100 people managed to follow the non existent signs!

I went yesterday with my father for the first time in about 7 years and thoroughly enjoyed it, like Neal I would like to have seen more UK  D&E (I did see the Hymek on Torre!) but the quality of the modelling and the specialist trade more than made up for the lack of Modern content. Will definitely try and get to Wells again next year.

I enjoyed the show, travelled from Weston by bus, £4.20 return.

There was some diesel action, Col. Stephens style, at Rolvenden which is a gem.

No diesels on the GCR at Leighton Buzzard in 1907, but what a beauty,

cheers
